Check out this track from Think About Life's debut LP, coming out May 2nd (officially the greatest day for music fans EVER!!). They play crunchy pop music, sorta in the same vein as BSS's latest self-titled record (sorta). This track features the rapper Subtitle, who has contributed to albums by the Islands and Th' Corn Gangg. Its really catchy, and dangerously addictive.

ALSO: when exploring the blogosphere recently (i think it was GvB to be exact), i came across a band called Goodnight & Goodnight. they are really quite good, if you can tolerate the vocalist (which can be difficult sometimes). regardless, fans of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Wolf Parade should definitely check them out. ive posted three tracks from the upcoming EP below, but if you wanna hear the tracks first, you can do so
here.
Thanks for the tip, this band is great. Have no problem with the vocalist, he just adds to the drama. Hope to hear more stuff from these folks soon. This is rich, original, even unexpected music. Highly recommended.

the copy going around is really poor....
the album is better than Riot Act, but i can't safely say it's better than Binaural yet. there's nothing on this new one i like as much as Of The Girl, Sleight of Hand, Grievance, or Insignificance, which, despite Binaural being not all that great of album overall, those are 4 of my fave PJ songs.
it's pretty disjointed in spots (moreso than the last 2 almost), and the first half is smokin', second half is pretty mellow save for Big Wave (which is a fun rocker w/ a cheesedick chorus and so-so lyrics).
definitely a good album, but far from a great one unfortunately
oh, and Yield is tied w/ No Code & Vs. for my fave PJ record

I forgot, it's been about 5 minutes since the last "rank your favorite pj albums" thread.

Ten, Vs. and Yield are the only ones I find myself listening to start to finish. Vitalogy is pretty good, but the other ones are too hit and miss for me. This one sounds solid so far, none of the "concept" songs they usually include that tend to derail the whole album.

I'm guessing yeah. Yield was more of the earnest Grunge-REM deal that No Code did so well.
And not a stadium-rock-masquerading-as-Grunge tune in sight. Arguably 'Do The Evolution', but that just plain rocks. Fucking saved me when I saw them in 2000. Thought I was gonna fall asleep til they played that -energised me! And I never liked it before that.
Hmm, now I think about it, I prefer their live album from the same year. That was great.

I know internet petitions basically never work but never has the need been so dire. Tell Owen Pallet that pretty much any other title would be better than "He Poos Clouds". Yeah, you're just shaking your head now, going "Owen Owen no", but imagine how you'll feel around 'best of the year' list time if you did nothing. Think of the children. "Dad, I saw that 20 years ago you liked album which had 'poos' in the title (and why do you keep showing me these old lists? I get it: you didn't like Walmart, okay.). Now I'm going to go join a space commune."

Christ, it's not that bad, is it? I'm on track 4 now, and it's kind of ordinary, but I'm not sure I'd resort to terrorism because of it.

Like I said before, Pete and Carl need each other. Maybe if both "solo" efforts get lukewarm responses, they will reunite for another go. The real challenge will be make a "Libertines" album from Down In Albion and Waterloo To Anywhere. Possible?

I guess it's possible to make a better album than each individually but Babyshambles without Carl's guitar playing is just as inferior as DPT missing Pete's words.

I think another thing I'm discovering is that as much as I like Carl's voice, I don't it's a voice that can sustain for a whole album. Starts to drone or become monotone after awhile. I guess I prefer Pete's voice, even if it's questionable if he's actually singing at times.

I'm going to chalk this up as another joke from you. Without The Libertines, we may not even have Arctic Monkeys. I like both bands, but the feeling I got from The Libs when I first heard them was this was a band that could literally change music. Had they not imploded and were able to continue with their trajectory, this might have been possible. Of course, this is entirely possible for Arctic Monkeys, but I'm not getting that same feeling. It's just a band I really like at the moment.

The Libertine's lyrics have always prevented them from being cast as a band of a generation for me (not that I think there are any better suited to the task) All the Albion and Dickensian imagery isn't as insightful as it could be. If all thier words were as on the money as those on "Time For Heroes" they can have the crown.

thank you for the DPT leak.
but it's not as good as the Babyshambles album. It's pretty much the same record, but with no personality, soul, or allure. If you thought the reggae moments on Babyshambles were bad (they're not), you need to hear Carl trying it. Dave Sardy goes far to ruin the record too with his in-the-red crackle that he's been slapping on every record since Barkmarket. The entire thing is just an unending wall of trebly guitar.
Carl seems more desperate to recreate the Libertines, but does not have the charisma or lyrics to pull it off.

As much as I hate to say it, I agree. I can't really say I'm surprised. I've seen the Libertines play three times, the first time with Pete, the next two times without. The first show I saw without Pete wasn't too bad because the audience was nuts and brought a lot of energy to the show, but the second show was pretty depressing. They looked like a cover band; I mean, if you had no idea who the Libertines were and you walked into that show, you wouldn't believe that the guys onstage could've written such great songs. Anyway, I didn't really think Carl was a particularly good frontman on his own. Not horrible, just not that exciting. And he seemed pretty uncomfortable up there to boot. (I've never seen Pete on his own, though, so he might not be that good either.)
Anyway, the same thing applies to this album. Is it terrible? No. But it's not that thrilling either. The dynamic throughout the album doesn't change much and there aren't a lot of good hooks. The lyrics seem kind of forced, like they were taken from some pre-conceived notion of what rock bands are supposed to sing about. It was pretty much what I expected. Pleasant enough, but I doubt I'll be listening to this two months from now.
