It's excellent. Kim Gordon's lyrics and singing seem much more down to earth and not as crazy; it's kind of out of character for her, but in a good way. This is the best album they've done in a long, long time in my opinion.
good to hear. Gordon can often get on my nerves, the more subdued she is the better IMO.
Yeah. Some of her songs are really annoying. And even if they aren't, her lyrics have still always been really... strange. As well as the way she sings. But she's totally reinvented her approach overall on this album, it seems. Not to mention, she sings a lot of songs. Thurston doesn't seem to have as many.
I don't know if this one is more "accessible". It's just a bit more crafty with their noise and how they integrate it into the super melodic guitar sound. It sounds like a lighter, less crazy version of Goo and also builds upon some of the things they were doing in Nurse. But Nurse itself, for example, was a lot more mellow. And Murray Street was very abstract. Perhaps too abstract for its own good. I really don't care for it that much.
LBJ: Uh, not really.
I don't listen to Nurse much, but I really like Murray Street. but it sounds like it may be a pretty good album. cool, thanks guys.

I get mad when people who actually discuss music here don't have a chance to download stuff, when people who just leech off of those who take the time to upload do. Normally I don't mind, but leaks like this go so fast because of lurkers that hardly any regulars are able to use the link.
iamaturd doesn't work becuase it's not the password, and neither is what Ryan posted.

so besides Transformer, i like this Gnarls disc a ton. i'm sure it'll wear off and def don't see it ending up in my top 20 at the end of the year really like i'd initially thought, but a damn fun album all the same. will def be playing this one into summer.

notice how the new guys that no one knows complains when they cant steal the music first? the point is people have been around here talking about albums they really wanna hear and someone comes along and jacks it right away. it sucks. I dont care to hear gnarls too much right now but come on, understand. if you wait a little Im sure you can get the cd in like two days. just discuss what you want and dont shit yourself.
and if you have a mighty mouse or two button mouse, just right click and "make archive file" or something along those lines. it will make a zip file and there you go. if not I think the "apple" button depressed at the same time as clicking a folder will bring up the same menu.

The new one that's really surprised me has been the Midlake. It's got this real 70's folk/rock feel to it. At the moment, I'm listening to Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue a lot and it has a similar vibe to that. Lush production and some great songs.
It also reminds me of a throwback 70s version of The Sophtware Slump, strangely enough.

The reaction to the Islands disc seems to be pretty hit or miss. Personally, i really like it. The new Midlake is really great too. As Vurt pointed out, it has a really cool retro sound to it.
Also: Who is this Tilly and The Wall? RIYL...?
elementus
Apr 14 2006, 08:37 PM
Tilly and the Wall is basically a sibling band of Bright Eyes and The Faint. Originally Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Clark Baechle (The Faint), Jamie Williams and Neely Jenkins (both of Tilly & The Wall) were all in a band called Park Ave. They broke up when Jamie moved to London.
Tilly & The Wall is pretty much a twee band with a tapdancer instead of a drummer.
