ok, gareth or anyone with oink, please upload the album from The Upper Room called "Other People's Problems." it's leaked, and every time i find someone on the bird with it, they disappear.
i'm sure it's spectacular shit, but i have to hear it anyway.
eternally grateful,

Anyone have a copy of the new Amy Millan album that they're willing to upload? I'm expecting it to be fairly great. The songs she sings in Stars tend to be the best, just because of her voice.

This Beirut disc is damn good. I really am digging alot of it. I think I'm gonna pick up a copy. anyone know where to purchase for 10 bucks or so? where is the best place to get music. I usually go amazon but figured there has to be somewhere online with better deals.
Just piping in.' I think the beirut record is pretty good, too.

So, I'm really digging the new Amy Millan album, much thanks for uploading it. It has quite an alt-country type feel, which I wasn't expecting, but it's very nice overall. It could easily be amongst my top albums of the year.

i haven't heard the whole thing yet, but what i have heard is quite unexpected when you consider Stars...Unexpected in a good way, though. i'm enjoying the album very much...And i guess it isn't too unexpected...i mean, compare Feist's solo work with the stuff she does for BSS...waaaaaaay different.
Wilcoinator
May 14 2006, 09:49 PM
I think BSS has a secret love for country. Jason Collett's solo album was pretty country-ish too...
Dark Flame
May 14 2006, 10:04 PM
Yeah, I suppose they all do, though they do keep some similarities to their sounds on BSS. For instance, on the Amy Millan disk, I'd say Skinny Boy isn't too far from some Stars stuff. Really, I think the biggest change for a solo artist these days that I can think of is Neko Case and the New Pornographers. Completely different. Still great though.

Well, I guess I'll be the one to disagree, but I listened to the Amy Millan disc once and heard nothing that made me want to listen again. Female alt-country songstresses are a dime a dozen up here in Canada and I can do without them all.

Sadly this is close to my view, although I'll probably give it a few more spins. It's a nice listen, and Amy has the honeyed voice to pull this sort of thing off, and I'm sure some of the No Depression crowd will eat it up. But there's very little on this album musically or lyrically to distinguish it from a Kathleen Edwards or Sarah Harmer album. I do like "Headsfull" and "Wayward and Parliament" though, mostly because they're the ones that deviate from alt country template the most.
