'Inducing', but that's not so alliterative.

It's all about the Mungo Jerry for me, in terms of sunny music. Or early Incubus. But I guess there's a thread for this anyway...

Nah, Dr. Jimmy's right again. Album's very good and the singles are excellent. The Keith Allen thing doesn't really enter into it for me, it's not like she's not talented anyway and he left the house when she was four.

I think what she's missing is the extra little oomph that makes someone like M.I.A. or Rachel Stevens so enjoyable, Lily is pretty bland.

Lyrics are much funnier, more witty then that bland clothes-horse Rachel Stevens and the thrilling instrumentals M.I.A. spoils with her voice.

I guess we'll agree to disagree here. Rachel Stevens is about twenty times more exciting than Lily Allen.

Rachel Stevens music is fine and exciting but her robotic delivery is nothing special what so ever and none of the lyrics have had me laughing heartily like Ms. Allen's have.

Aww.
And I don't find the lyrics that funny, either. It's all a tad cod-Parklife, and I wasn't a fan of that at the time.
Is it worth listening to the albums if I'm not a fan of the singles?
And current popstress continuum:
Annie>Rachel>MIA>Robyn>Gwen>Madonna>Lily>Corinne

Lily's got waaaay more personality than Rachel Stevens. It really comes through.
And the songs are hooky. 2nd day in a row I woke up with "LDN" running through my head (imagine that, Danielson & Lily Allen are currently ruling my brain).
At first I dismissed her lyrics as being too juvenile, but now I like them. She's got a kind of naive irony that works. I don't think she's funny, but I enjoy her trying to be funny.
Loving "Everything's Just Wonderful" lately. A little Pizzicato Five-ish? I'm bad with references.

Here's the 2005 Swedish version of the album:

According to Parasol, there's only a slight difference between the Swedish and international versions (that is, unless you count "cool" factor...then it's Swedish all the way!).
QUOTE
Title: S-T (International Version)
Artist: El Perro Del Mar
Label: MemphisIndustries
PS, UK New, improved international version of the debut album by Jens Lekman cohort and the next Swedish sensation El Perro Del Mar (AKA Sara Assbring). Nearly indentical to 'Look! It's EPDM' album on Hyrbis but this special international version subtracts a track and adds new single "God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)". Expect big things from El Perro Del Mar. Nice reviews at Pitchfork, All Music Guide, etc. Sounds like The Concretes last album, Jens Lekman's lofi orchestrations, and especially Phil Spector girlgroup wall-of-sound 60s pop...
could anyone re-up this?

i just read the review & am curious...

I've never been too keen on Annie or Robyn over th course of a whole album, maybe a joint one like The Beatles Vs. The Four Tops would interest me more. I just find having a connection to the lyrics with Lily Allen gives it an avantage in that I can make a connection, however small, with the music. Plus I like me some ska-inflected pop over the heavily processed and compressed beats of M.I.A which have I never had anything more than a grudging admoration for. I know Arular is good but I've never been that keen on actually listening to the whole album, doesn't do much for me.
If you don't like the singles, then the album isn't probably worth the bovva. A couple of demos ("Nan, You're a Window Shopper") are better then the worst tracks on the album. I'm thinking that it's a bit like the Gnarls Barkley album (in my mind anyway) 4 or 5 really good tracks and the rest not quite as good but not filler.
The Plan B album knocks seven shades of shit off it though.

It's not like I've listened to her album or anything, but from listening to her myspace, Lily Allen just comes across as neo-Parklife bollocks, for people who like to 'embrace' working class culture without venturing too far from their Cafe Nero lunch break. She's a poor man's Nellie McKay at best.
By the way, thanks for the Plan B album. He's always seemed a bit gimmicky for my tastes, but I'm not against giving his album a try. I like the title, anyway.

Jun 7 2006, 11:27 AM
Personally, I think Robyn wins the female pop-awesomeness. Then Annie, then Lily Allen. All three are excellent though. I haven't listened to any Rachel Stevens, so I can't comment about that, but the other three are well ahead of any of their more popular contemperaries (Madonna, Britney, Gwen, etc.).
