I'm only a little bit into the second song but I'm really just not feeling the album at first..I don't know I'm sure i'll like it once i listen all the way through, it's already picking up a bit.

Album didn't start really clicking with me until the keyboards kicked in about halfway through the second song...that said the first song was better upon my second listen...still not as strong of opening song as they've had in the past IMO but a pretty good decemberists song none the less.

Sounds like Solace has heard the whole thing....how long is track 9 is it another big epic long song like track 2?

Upon the first couple of listens, im mildly disappointed by The Crane Wife. It is far from bad, but it pales in comparison to Picaresque (and even The Tain EP), both of which i love. I already like it better than their first 2 albums though.

I've found that the Decemberists have aged quite well actually. They have continually polished their sound, leading up to the Crane Wife. Their first two albums are good to be sure, but more often than not, ill skip them and listen to The Tain/Picaresque.

ah, songwriting wise those albums are hard to top imo.

I ended up just stopping listening and going with the Outkast album
which I like a lot.

yeah its really great stuff, but man it's been like 5-6 years since a "true" outkast album. this is just more solo stuff for the most part; they rap together on 5-6 songs and the rest are andre songs and big boi songs. I know it's just the soundtrack so hopefully the next real album will drop this fall.

Plan to be sorely dissapointed. I'd but a healthy wager on this being the last OutKast record we'll ever see.

It sounds like Andre and Big Boi can no longer work together anymore. And that's a shame since they're one of the most original groups out there.

this Decemberists album is, in some ways, less annoying than their other stuff. they even have a brush or two with grooviness.

and yet, after 3 listens, i'm still waiting for a song to be memorable. don't know if that's gonna happen.

Yeah. I'm a little worried. "A Perfect Crime" is, although "groovy," the most boring song (melodically and lyrically) they've yet done.
