I don't mean to sound like a dick (to solace), because I really was looking forward to this album, but man, does it suck. Very disappointing, their self-titled album was amazing.

Blessing Force, for example, sounds like a bad tape recording of a youth group praise and worship band practicing.

I couldn't disagree more. I liked their self-titled, but I LOVE this. It's kind of reminiscent of Animal Collective at times, but I love AC, so that's no problem.

I only listened to the self-titled a few times when I first got it; I've been playing this pretty much non-stop since I got it.

for me it's kinda like the first one in terms of my enjoyment level...

some stuff is insanely great and intriguing, and other times i want to shut it off

always a weird love/hate dynamic to have with a band/record.

And as for Akron/Family, yeah, it sounds different. i would not quite say that it's on the level as their first record, which was just fucking amazing. It still sounds good, but perhaps its a bit disappointing considering the level of their first work. i guess it would be a very dumb idea to expect a band like that to make two records that sound sort of similar though. i love the fact that they're experimenting, and i do enjoy Meek Warrior a LOT. It was a surprise when i first heard it, but shit, that's what bands like Akron/Family do.

Having never heard previous Akron/Family releases I can't say I'm disappointed with the new album, but having seen the band live, I can say it doesn't seem to represent them quite as well as it might. I don't think I'll be buying this, but I already have a ticket for their show in October.

I'm really lovin' the sweet sounds of the new Dylan right now. I'm certainly heading off to the store after work to pick it up. He is THE man!

Seriously, does he pick it up vocally at all on this record? That wheezy, slightly tubercular grumble of recent vintage has worn a little thin for me.

Well he's not getting any younger, so that voice will remain for the forseeable future. That said, I think there's a vey noticeable progression in his ability to recognize his limits and that's a wonderful thing for me.

Yeah, I felt bad writing that. I think I'm more sensitive to it in light of that last Cash stuff that came out.
