shimmy, that kid that was supposed to get his promo hasn't posted since then, so not sure.

as for Calexico... hard to say... they're one band that is awfully hard to label

at their basic roots they are rock, but definitely a Mexicana flavor (obvs). some of it is even mariachi. this new one is much less of that though, more rock/country/folk than usual.

right.....thanks

from what I understand there are hundreds of the lips' promos out as of this weekend......c'mon already.

There has to be a way around the watermark that everyone is so scared of.

The Calexico is sounding great so far. Have a hunch I'll like this one more than Feast of Wire, which I really liked.

What a year for Americana (for lack of a better word) so far! Neko Case, Calexico, Centro-Matic, Drive-By Truckers...wow.

Bah! Calexico link is gone already. Who wants to re-up, pretty please??

Is it better than the Iron & Wine/Calexico project from last year? Now, that was a slept on record.

while i loved that EP, yes, it is better imo.

might be their most accessible album to date. i'm sure some people will miss the horns. i love them, but they're much better heard live than on album for me.

give this one a shot

Speaking of their horns -- I have this awesome little soundboard recording from Calexico's performance opening for Ozomatli & Los Lonely Boys last year in Austin. It's only seven songs (nice and concise), doesn't let up for a second, the sound is crystal clear, and the horns sound fucking great. Outside of one split second digital burp in the very beginning of one of the tracks, it's absolutely perfect. I'll try to get it up this weekend. I generally wouldn't get worked up over a bootleg like this, but this particular one is so great and really stands out compared to their other boots that I've heard.
solace
there's a fabulous sbd of theirs when they backed Neko Case a few years back (i think in LA or something, maybe AZ)

Ladies and Gentlemen, YSI presents to you what many consider to be the finest soundtrack created. It is "the Good, the Bad and the Ugly" , created by the genius Ennio Morricone. This soundtrack has influenced artists like Mettalica, Pink Floyd, Jay-Z and others. The film itself is considered by many to be the finest ever crafted, so I would suggest seeing the film before listening to the soundtrack as it will have more impact.

This is the expanded , remastered version. Standout tracks would be track the good bad ugly main title, the carriage of the spirits, marcia, the story of a soldier, marcia without hope, the death of a soldier, the ecstasy of gold, and the trio (main title). Should add much color to anyones collection. The three "knockout" tracks would be ecstasy of gold, the trio(main title) and the good bad ugly (main title).

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com essential recording
The gifts of film composer Ennio Morricone have not been overestimated by the recent hype piled upon them. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is one of his seminal works, its power only slightly diminished by its status as one of Morricone's overplayed warhorses. As with only the best film music, it is inexorably linked with the movie it accompanies, and it's wonderfully enjoyable even if you've never seen the film. Purists and aficionados will crow about its ubiquity, but anyone remotely interested in movie music and evocative, atmospheric composition deserves to hear this score. --Keven McAlester

i'm a fairly big Rilo fan, i'd say More Adventurous, while haveing a few great songs, is easily their weakest. it's almost all downhill from Blake's horrid track Ripchord, save for a song or two.

Portions For Foxes is killer tho
