The Cobra Starship disc is unimpressive. I was hoping for a catchy pop-punk masterwork (haven't been enough this year), and nothing stood out on the first listen.

I hope Gabe cranks out another Midtown record. The last one was the best yet.

Word. I *hated* Midtown until that last disc. But I don't even know that I'd call that one pop-punk, it was quite a departure. I loved the "Bring It" single, but I don't even care to hear the whole disc.

Personally I don't want this to happen - I think its a great thread.

If you don't want noobs requesting links then it would be quite simple to enforce a rule that only people with say 50 or more posts althogether on the forum have access to this thread.

Also it might help if you changed the name of it because right now if you type in 'leaked albums' into google this thread is the first result. So it's no wonder their are lots of visitors.

Look. For me it's all about the music - I don't care much for arguements nor do I have the time for it.

True, the last record wasn't pop-punk, but the earlier ones were. The way I saw it, Forget What You Know was like their Deja Entendu... but with less impact, at least to me.

I agree that this thread is way over the top, its nothing but a magnet for lurkers and googlers at this point - and it sucks. I don't, however, think you need to resort to firing off a letter about it Jimmy. There are some worthwhile threads to share music that you just can't find most places, i.e. Freddie's no-wave thread, and I'd hate to see all that go out the window as well. We need to find a happy medium here and not resort to tossing the baby out with the bathwater.

Uncut attracted a lot of critical attention and increased their fanbase significantly following the release of their Paper Bag debut album, Those Who Were Hung Hang Here, so expectations are higher this time around.

The Toronto quartet will try and fulfill them with Paper Bag's October 24 release of Modern Currencies, which promises to be louder than its predecessor. The group were inspired by the sheer volume they experienced while opening for Bob Mould on tour earlier this year, and they've drawn further inspiration from listening to other early '90s heroes such as Swervedriver, Dinosaur Jr. and The Jesus & Mary Chain. As a result, the guitars have been cranked up and the rhythms are heavier.

Another difference is that guitarists/singers Ian Worang and Sam Goldberg have a third vocalist in the mix, as bassist Derek Tokar has expanded his contributions to the band. Drummer Jon Drew, who's also done production work for labelmates Magneta Lane and Tokyo Police Club, produced Modern Currencies. The disc was mixed by John O'Mahony (Metric, Dashboard Confessional, LCD Soundsystem).

The album will probably draw a bit of extra attention, too, because of Melissa Auf Der Maur's participation. The 34-year-old former member of Hole and Smashing Pumpkins contributed backing vocals to three songs, including "Hideaway," which can be heard on Uncut's MySpace page
