feh, while i agree Two Conversations didn't touch the amazing LLO records, it still had some killer songs. Fight Song is one of their best songs ever imo.

it's biggest problem was how short it was for me.

but yeah, this new one kicks ass musically, for sure. still not really any songs i find myself singing along w/ yet or anything tho. definitely shows a bit of Old Canes influence.

yeah, the length was one of the bigger problems. After a double album of over 90 minutes, you need to give a little more than 10 songs that for the most part a pretty straight forward. and there was just one too many songs that just plod along and dont do a whole lot.
But your right Fight Song pretty much owns.
that and Hello Dearest Love.

I'm not so sure I'm stuck on the new Clearlake... still, "It's Getting Light Outside" is a wonderful should-be single.

"silent shout" sounds good so far. i want to hear this in a club.

i was hoping for an all-new stereolab album.. didn't expect those ep tracks to show up on the lp, but whatever. still 6 new tracks.

I can't get over the vocals in Rubies. Very feminine/gay. That would be a very good album with a different singer.

i see Pfork shit on the title cut, not surprisingly. it is pretty overblown and too long imo.

i do love the album though, but not the biggest fan the title track.

DJ is right though, so far there's been some really good albums for '06, but nothing truly great just yet.

I have to disagree on this one. Though it is of ridiculous length, it's able to hold my attention for 9 minutes. The strength of the melody and instrumention and the presence of variation allows it to succeed despite its length.

Oh, and shut up Montana. That's a ridculous complaint. Imagine it's a girl if you have that much of a problem with it. And never listen to Antony & The Johnsons.

exactly. i love the way it builds up to the slow guitar melodies at the end, and the "now come on honey, let's go outside... you disrupt the worlds disorder just by virtue of your grace" ahhh.. it's long, but i never find myself thinking about the length. i don't see how someone can dismiss this albums greatness.

i can't stand Dan's overly wordy delivery on it. that whole "babbling brook, blah blalbha" fast delivery just bugs me. it's almost spoken word at times, i prefer more melodic verses usually.

i dislike Dan's delivery more than i usually dislike his voice actually. i do still like Destroyer, despite my annoyance w/ the vocals at times.

btw, as good as Dan is, you gotta credit the amazing backing music on this record to the guys who played on it. Dan definitely surrounds himself w/ very talented people, always has.

also, the last 30 seconds to a mintue of the title track is just excessive and unecessary imo.

I can see how someone doesn't like that kind of delivery, I suppose. I guess that's more a plain old matter of opinion. But that's present through the entire album.

whenever people i know complain about Destroyer only selling like 5-8k records every time he puts one out, i point out that his stuff isn't exactly very accessible. it's not a big surprise to me to be honest. there's plenty of artists i love that don't sell many albums, and i totally understand why, Destroyer is one.

that said, i'm thinking this new one stands a chance at selling like 30-45k if it gets a good push from the major sites.

and yes, it is present throughout, but it's more exaggerated on the title track. if it wasn't for the backing music being so good on Rubies, i wouldn't give a shit about the record personally. Dan's lyrics, while interesting, aren't necessarily always my thing. the whole "stream of conciousness" type lyrics. my biggest problem w/ Your Blues was mostly the overuse of the keyboards/organs.

I kind of don't like the vocals either. It's not cuz it sounds 'gay', I like his voice at moments but he just does a terriffic job sounding as if he doesn't care. Plus he throws about too many words in lines that should be shorter. Almost as if he has parenthesis added to every line. I must be missing the point.

The guy is a neat songwriter and in no way am I doubting his talent. It's just personal taste on the vocals. This seems to be a "snag" for many people not getting into many artists.

that is a very good assessment, overly wordy for the sake of being wordy, imo. we get it, you have a good grasp of the english language and own a thesaurus.

Nothing boring about Eddie's Gun. What's wrong with some sugar sweet Ska-pop? (Especially as it's about erectile dysfunction the lead singer suffered whilst we was dating Katie Melua.)

It sounds a bit like Belle & Seb. in places, just less twee.

I can't imagine many Dylan fans slagging on Bejar.

They share a similar "difficult" voice and a tendency to get a little "wordy" at times. Not that their music or style is entirely similar, but those two speed bumps seem to be something they have in common.

thing is, it depends, because Dylan has had many periods of his life where his voice was actually quite good imo. sure it's shot now, and for much of the early 90's it was just uninitelligble, but listen to Carnegie Hall 1963, his voice sounds amazing imo. i'm not talking technically ala: Jeff Buckley or anything, but damn... Bejar's sounds like Bowie with a bad head cold most of the time (not always a bad thing, just saying).
