For me, the best songs on the Who album are the quiet acoustics:

"God Speaks of Marty Robbins"

"You Stand By Me"

"Man in a Purple Dress"

"Tea & Theatre"

as a handful of songs, these are actually quite good.

but the rock stuff (the other 80% of the album) just doesn't work. at all.

Pete still has it. If he did a solo acoustic album, it would top any of his contemporaries, including Dylan.

I completely agree. All the soft ones are really good. I do however like "Mike Post Theme." That's the only rocking one on the album I like. Not ideal but it'll do.

What makes the rock songs bad is that Roger's trying to hard. The music's usually pretty good.

The lyrics in Mike Post Theme were poor choice. I bet critics all over America will go "You heard it there. They have to face the truth sometime."

well, i got the tracklisting off of loserkids.com, which is the site run by mark and the other blink guys, so even though the tracklistings are different then say, other sites, i would assume that this would be more right than anything since it's pretty much comin' from the source.

check it out here for yourselves...

i already uploaded this +44 album dummard and that tracklisting is more wrong than having sex with a dead baby

to quote mark himself from the newest issue of Alternative Press about the song "Interlude" and why it's where it is, asshole:

Mark: That was one of the first songs. It was just something that we came up with in the basement that we thought was cool. We liked it as a musical break between “Cliff Diving” and “Weatherman,” because “Cliff Diving” is such a positive, upbeat thing and “Weatherman” is the darkest song on the record.

this thread just got really real.

edit: So this +44 is a pretty solid album. but for some reason i just don't dig it anywhere near as much as I do Angels and Airwaves, even thought i like Mark's voice more and Travis is an amazing drummer -- i just love the hugeness of Angels.

Its alright i guess. Its really nothing spectacular though, im afraid. If you want to hear how this album really should have sounded, listen to the new Trail of Dead track "Eight Day Hell" on repeat. That song is bitchin'. In fact, the whole new album sounds pretty AiS-ish. Just listen to that instead.

it just shocked me to be honest. i didn't see the record up, so i uploaded it. everyone's been so dope here and it seems to be a great board and a great community, but then frickin' "6 post jim" comes in and cusses me out fer posting the wrong tracklisting. my bad, honestly, and i take the blame for that. but was that honestly necessary. how bout a "record already got posted, try checking the board better next time"?

also, i've posted several other records here in the short time i've been here, so even though, yes, i'm new, at least i'm attempting to contribute. what has he done with his life that's so great man? i'll tell ya...nothin'!

I watched Tom DeLonge on Larry King last night and he came across as one of the most pretentious rock stars on Earth. The band is called Angels & Airwaves because the band's "cause is noble" and the airwaves will be "how they get the message across". He referred to the band several times as being a band that wants to "change the world". Hey pal, how 'bout you just tell us about how you hit on a girl at the Burger King or at a show on the Warped Tour and BEAT IT.

Also, what's up with that guy's hair now? DeLonge looks like he stole Will Ferrell's Goulet wig.

It's gotten really polarizing (but mostly extremely negative) reviews at Cannes. There were critics who basically called it a big, long, sprawling, ugly mess. I think there were a few positive reviews, but they were overshadowed by how vitriolic the negative reviews were. So maybe Kelly will trim the film down or make some changes. The cast is pretty bizarre. I'm interested to see it because I did love Donnie Darko and even though it got negative reviews, I can think of another great movie that was set in southern California that got the tag "big, sprawling, ugly mess" from some critics when it was first screened. I'm intrigued by the scene where Timberlake lip-synchs "All These Things That I've Done", which was mentioned positively in most reviews.

on the downside, here's a couple of clips from the film that don't make me want to see the film at all (there are a few other clips floating around on YouTube):

I dunno about the film being any good, but a fantastic soundtrack. However, Mogwai still made close to the best score for a film I've ever heard in my life. So.. best soundtrack award goes to Mogwai..
