The beauty of Mixel Pixel, Rob Corradetti’s electronic mindfuck of a band? They’ll never fuck your mind the same way twice. Since last year’s release of Contact Kid (a record that saw the Mixel Pixel branch out from videogame samples, blips and beeps into a whole wide world of electronic weirdness), the band has added a fourth full-time member—Matt Snee, a longtime friend and beatmaker of Corradetti’s. With their first effort as a four-piece, Music for Plants, the band continues its progression from full-on Atari rock to stuck-in-the-Tubes psychedelic pop. From the start, keyboardist Kaia Wong takes on a more prominent role as a co-vocalist. She adds harmony and depth to Corradetti’s weirdly melodic monotone lyricism, takes the lead on the dance jam “Coming Up X’s,” and also rocks an awesome Casio solo in “Behind the Sun?”—a manic mope-and-dance bit that’s a tribute to Red Bull’s creative powers. “You’re the Kind of Girl” is an interesting change of pace; it layers sparse guitar work and a methodical chorus over a hip-hop bass-and-snaps line, but it’s immediately turned on its head by “Switchblade Sister”—a song that uses the same bedrock elements, but reworks them into a party-time freakout.

Animal Collective – Hollinnagain (Paw Tracks)

Available again for the first time since 2002 when it was originally released on super limited vinyl, Animal Collectives own label ‘Paw Tracks’ have given us the chance to indulge in the early live sets that encompass Hollinnagain.

Recorded during the first half of 2001 when the band were aiming to produce a different live set with every gig, the songs, or more specifically jams, that make up Hollinnagain were never recorded for a studio album and so this record works as both a documentation of the collectives live sound at the time as well as a record in its own right. And a very interesting one on both counts it is too. Far less complete, structured or realised than their more recent work Hollinnagain none the less has that distinct looping and hypnotic Animal Collective sound but coupled with a looseness and spontaneity that suggests the whole thing could fall to pieces at any given moment. But where as this could result in a messy and unrealised noise there is always something there or an overall direction that brings it all back from the brink each time.

While this may not be for many recent inductees to the Animal Collective’s more latest more polished offerings like ‘Feels’ it certainly provides fans with an interesting testament to what a sonically interesting band they have always been.

Can someone help me with Megaupload. I'm new to it and am having some problems. I signed up and confirmed. I am using the multi-upload function to try and upload files. After I select the files on my computer and start the upload, nothing really happens. It says Estimated time: unknown and there is no upload happening. I waited about 10-15 min and still nothing. When I upload a file and send to an email address it works. What could be the problem?

Maybe just wait it out. Some services don't keep their progress bar updated.
