Yeah this isn't some kind of personal attack but this board has about 550 members in it's month old incarnation and the number of people who have no posts is nearly 150.

There are also just as many unregistered people reading this board as members most days. If people here to discuss then that's great, open arms for them. Moochers can go to torrent sites like you suggest.

Calexico - Garden Ruin

fabulous through track 3

Is Giant Sand any good? Do they sound much different than Calexico?
ash
has anyone head the new pink mountaintops? just heard a track on the radio, sounded awesome. also, so what's the verdict on the new FF? i heard a rough mix over the summer and i thought it sounded great

Percentage-wise, that's a much lower number than on the previous incarnation of the board.

yes and sort of wink.gif

they def share some similarities, but i don't think they sound THAT similiar either

So I am really not feeling this Fiery Furnaces disc. Maybe they just have made too many albums too fast, and I am tired of their sound. Or maybe I am really tired of their jarring shifts from part to part in each song.

there are moments on the album that are astounding, but not as many great moments as BB or even RMC.

thanks. i definitely enjoy the calexico, but i think sometimes they're better as a backup band than on their own.

Temporary solution;

Don't write out an album or artists name correctly.

I'm going to edit my posts so we don't have a list of "hot" albums in this thread.

Maybe we could come up with a code word like we do for the Bird.
SmashNapCrash
I'm really bad with computers, and I don't find new music before everyone else, but that said, if I figure out how to YSI, then I will put up something of mine.

I don't want to be a moocher, because I did d/l the new FF cd.

I'm not really digging the new FF. It seems to be made for people with ADD, in a very downtrodden way. It's not as fun as Blueberry Boat, and the cd as a whole feels self-conscious.

But I have only give it one proper listen

I hate college networks. by the time I can actually get a good bandwith the ysi's are already gone. dont worry, I wont ask for another YSI because I understand how much of a pain in the ass that is. can anyone tell me though what they think of the new FF compared to blueberry boat. I absolutly love that disc. I dont spin it as much as I used to but everytime I do it is like a new experience. is it for me, will it be worth the 14 bucks I'll end up spending on it? and also the idea of typos in band names is a very good idea. I found this site before the new look by looking up information on pitchfork and there just so happen to be a thread about pitchfork on here. (I was AdamM). is there anyway to limit access into a thread by post counts? perhaps 50 posts would be neccesary and the new posters would not be aware of the limit therefore not able to find the new thread. I dont even know if this is possible but perhaps it would be a good idea.

(sorry for info overload. captain morgan is being kind to me tonight)

my main worry with my college network is that i am going to abuse bandwith, with all the donwloads i do (which actually isn't a whole lot, maybe three or four albums a week). does anyone know if a college can see what you all download and how much?

it's ridiculous to try and limit when someone can earn the privledge to download off this board, everyone on this board was new at some point. yeah, it's annoying when someone's first post is asking for something but being elitist isn't going to change anything.

and the thing is, when people's first post is asking for something, you can always just ignore them. that type of person probably has very little to offer.
ShaunTheEdifice
I havent contributed any music yet, but i did ask for something. I intend to contribute (I have like 600 albums, 500 of them purchased) and i will soon, but it probably would be a good idea to restrict this forum from being searchable through google. I know from previous experience that having these kinds places out in the open does not end well.

I don't have a problem with new people downloading, I have a problem with people who don't plan on ever posting or contributing (to discussions, not by uploading stuff, I can understand not wanting/being able to do that).

College networks can and do monitor your bandwidth usage, although it's not like they're studying what everyone does (most likely). They collect information of everything everyone using the internet does, just like your ISP would do on your normal connection. You're probably not going to run into a problem unless the RIAA subpoenas server logs from your school, which has been done in the past. It seems like it's basically a random process, and for all I know laws have been passed to prevent that kind of thing now, I really don't know.

Howe Gelb and Giant Sand are great. Much weirder and off-beat, makes Calexico sound very conventional.

and, as a gift to the board, i have decided to continue bestowing my wisdom.

please, no more "thank you" pm's. but to answer one boarder's message, no i am not a hero. just a regular guy who loves--no, needs--to give.

Sunset Rubdown is Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade/Frog Eyes)'s new project. this album is pretty fucking fantastic. i'm on my second listen right now and loving all but maybe 1-2 tracks.

this might appeal to people who didn't really get into Wolf Parade even (although it does sound similiar in spots)

Any chance of someone reposting this?

I must confess, unless I'm lucky, I doubt I will be able to contribute much to this thread as far as YSI's go. I'm just not that well connected in finding leaks. That other thread however? Yeah, I can post there.

Hey Some Girl, thanks for re-upping the mylo. I'm absolutly loving this whole thing, every song is a great little dance piece with great melody behind it.

it's been a loved album. i'm not sure i loved the entire thing, mostly the hits. mylo himself says it's been a year-and-a-half, that he needs to get on with his new album already and do it all again. i have no problem with that.

Yeah, I'll be picking this one up too when it comes out. I've always thought Mono was just a mere ripoff of Mogwai, but it seems like with this album, they're finally getting away from that whole thing. "Moonlight" might be one of their best tracks yet...
