Is this album any good? I keep seeing it around and I'm starting to worry that it's one of those I only realize I want after everyone else is done sharing it.

This Ted Leo is REALLY LONG.

This Ted Leo is REALLY LONG.
And not very good either. Where are the riff-happy hooks? Few of the lyrics are sticking with me either. FOUR songs pushing and past the 6 minute mark. Ted Leo is not a 6 minute long song guy. Pfft. There are a few moments on this I'd go back to, but I'm bummed.

One of those moments, "C.I.A." is really good, but about 2 minutes too long.

I found the Ted Leo to be pretty strong throughout. My main gripes is that yes it is about fifteen minutes too long, and has no absolute stunners (such as Me and Mia, or Where have all the Rude Boys Gone). but I think that it might be quite a bit better than Shake the Sheets.
Chronodiggity
Totally dug The Toro and the Toreador. Great balladry.

I'm not really a Ted Leo fan, so whatever, it was a good listen, I enjoyed it.

My sister will love it.

A couple of stunners might help me forgive the bulk of middling material and its length. I was feeling very little of it compared to the last two albums, which weren't perfect, but were more distinguished than this.

Yeah, no offense LOL, your generosity is appreciated, but I'm swimming in so much music, I need to make educated choices in downloading. Don't get me running to MySpace. Give us a clue as to what we're getting into.

Maybe I'd be more willing to accept your "this is really fucking great" endorsement and fill up my hard drive if I wasn't so bored by the National Lights album that you put up.

on a few more listens I am really digging "bottle of Buckie," just a solid poppy tune. it's got a real snap to it. actually this gets better the more I listen, but for some reason the opening half of the album does not seem to try to do too much, and leaves the last half to really pick up the variety.
LOL Alzado
Ryan Bob, see the thread i made about this album.

i like it. and anyone who doesn't like national lights was not loved as a child.

After two listens the Ted Leo has got me down. It's giving me a First Impressions of Earth-vibe (too long, not enough hooks).

The new Kings of Leon is out there, I'm intrigued.
