Damn WMA files on that liars YSI and this Figuines band really doesnt sound much like any of those bands mentioned (maybe similar to doug martsch's live vocals). not really doing it for me. too bad cause I was really excited with those comparisons.

You and I have been disagreeing a lot tonight. biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Here's another YSI link for all the metalheads (unlike me) out there.

you win some you lose some. I'm overly picky with my music. people yell at me but when its done right it is such an amazing, rewarding experience. I have been getting into the whole dance scene as well. I hoped on a year late.

anyway, the figurines were just too unorigonal for me. they seemed like they had some potential and then every song kinda ended up sounding like every other song. if you like the sound I can see how it would be easy to love the whole thing give or take one or two tracks.

havent heard boris - pink yet and Ive been trying to grab that fiery furnaces but it doesnt seem to be working for me so there could be some agreement there.

I think that's one of YSI's ads that's causing that. They may be password fishing, but who knows. Just hit cancel and you'll be fine

Shame about the BHP being blocked. How does it compare to Amore Del Tropico? Speaking of which, did anyone ever see the associated film?

Either I'm gaining a tolerance for metal....

...or Pink and Age of Winters join Leviathan and Blessed Black Wings as being metal it's ok for non-metallers to like.

The Boris album has its accessible moments. I actually prefer the shorter songs on Pink.

Well, Pink isn't really metal imo, but i agree with you about those 4 albums being metal albums we can all enjoy. I am not a huge metal fan and before Mastodon came along and made me pay attention i used to write it off as music that's just not for me. There are some instrumental/post-rock/metal bands i like too, like Pelican.

I'm listening to this as I type this. For some reason, a promo copy showed up in my mailbox last week and while I can't say I like it thatmuch I still find myself putting it on. I think it's the first song, or the first two songs that do it for me. But you're right, as I'm typing this I'm thinking of getting up and putting something else on. The Figurines are playing here for free a week from tomorrow and I'll probably end up going. Them and a couple other bands from Denmark.

I honestly don't see what's so horrible about it (regarding Burzum's comment). To each their own and all that...

I actually like it too. Heard it last night when I was dead tired, then burned it and put it on the stereo for a proper listen today. It's not the greatest thing ever, but I think it's more good than bad. The Wonder is great, and a lot of songs have the potential to become samey, but usually I've found something in each song that's its own thing. I'll listen to it more and see how it holds up to repeated spins. Cheers for turning me on to a new band marios!

Eh, it's watered down 5th tier boring-ass indie with a weak singer and incredibly shitty lyrics. It's like high schoolers doing a Built To Spill tribute.

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
hxxps://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=285CPX85ZMEJM2CMGGT8O2JEPG

Accessible enough for those who like to dabble in the heavy stuff!

REAL vocal melodies!

NO cookie monster vocals!

Big riffs!

Not too blunt, not too prog-metal!

The longest song is 4 1/2 minutes!

One of the best metal albums of 2006 so far!

Act now.

Sounds great for a dabbler like me. No Cookie Monster vocals + big riffs = recipe for success.

Katatonia is relatively new to me, and I like what I've heard so far. They remind me of a combination of Tool, some elements from Porcupine Tree, and the band Atomship. Specifically, Atomship's singer and the overall atmosphere of the music. It's good stuff.
