Anyone else watching Boca-River, that's the marquee matchup of the week for me.
Nick
What a great sports weekend thus far:

Saturday watched Hull vs. Sunderland, Arsenal vs. Chelsea & Barcelona vs. Getafe.

This morning watched the F1 race, the end of Spurs vs. Newcastle, Man United vs. Everton and have Lyon vs. Bordeux on right now.
Bruegs
fuck
badger5000
lol
Mitchell
I'm glad In The Loop was really fucking good else I'd have been annoyed.
Nick
I'm fine w/ the result. United still have to play Arsenal & Chelsea. Their match against Spurs could be tricky as well. I think if Liverpool win out they win the title at worse on goal difference. In fact, I hope they win on goal difference.
Bruegs

"Simples!"

Despite the goal sequence I thought Arsenal were very lucky to come away from that game with anything.

I've got mixed feeling about the result. It was great to see the Baby-Faced Assassin Mark II bag four but I really hope those dropped points dont scupper the Pools title challenge.

Amazing spectacle regardless.
badger5000
Fergie's latest attempt to fuck w/ Rafa looking even more sour and juvenile than usual. No question that Liverpool are the peoples champions this year even if they don't quite manage the real thing - which they should anyway with their run-in. The Albion should be good for six if nothing else.

They've already played Chelsea twice in the league (1-1,3-0)

Unless you mean in the CL final sad.gif
Bruegs
Is Howard Webb going for a winners medal?
throughsilver
Tottenham Hotspur. I put my faith in you for one fucking match and this is what you give me. Blowing a two-goal lead and mashing up Liverpool's GD advantage. Fucking wankers.
James D
5 goals in one half of football. Pissing myself at that.
Nick
I wish Newcastle and Spurs could switch spots. A relegated Spurs would mean we can finally get past hearing the close season talk that it is finally going to be the season they break into the top 4.

At halftime I was so certain United were getting ready to collapse entirely but now the title race is basically over.
throughsilver
I wish Portsmouth had been competent enough to score, but Newcastle going scoreless at home is amusing nonetheless. Liverpool next happy.gif
Nick
One of the worst matches I've seen this year. Chelsea didn't even bother to try and play football.

And Guardiola subs Eto'o for Bojan only to see Bojan send a beautiful Alves cross two feet wide. Eto'o would have buried that in the back of the net.

Chelsea are done. They can't do this for another 90+ minutes. Barca will get an away goal and deservedly advance. Hiddink is going to get praised as some tactical genius when all he did was ask his squad to play anti-football.
Mitchell
Drawing 0-0 away from home in the first leg is never a good result for English clubs.
castaña
It wasn't good for Barca last year either.
I don't like how it looks.
Anyway, the most important match of the season is this weekend against Madrid.
Rad Monkey
I am sick and tired of English teams parking the bus when they play Barcelona. Then the English press act like they did something heroic. If any teams in the world can go to heard to head with Barcelona, you'd think it you would be Chelsea and Man United.

If Chelsea score first, then it's over. Expect more "heroic" 10 men in the box. *yawn*
If Barcelona score first, we might have ourselves some entertainment.

I have to give Real Madrid some respect though, they have the balls to actually come out and play.
Bruegs
got a bad feeling about this sad.gif

and re last night
first team to shut them out in the nou camp this season - your entertainment was not on the agenda
pragmatism is ugly but if they complete the job next week there will be few beholders in SW6 seeing the beauty
Mitchell
No doubt Chelsea did the right thing last night in terms of trying to win the tie, it's possible to have a rock solid defence and attack though. See AC Milan in the early 90's.

Still think they needed an away goal.
Bruegs
To be fair, they scored 7 in the last round - horses for courses.

It’s funny that you mention that Milan dynasty as they were pretty much the living embodiment of that maxim. How many times did they shut up shop and scrape a late one in that 58 game streak?

Think you might be right about the away goal though - I wouldnt bet a against a team with a 90 goal strike force getting a couple at the bridge.
Bruegs
Right, Im going down the boozer for the second half.

I might need a few after this.
Mitchell
A few times, but they did attack late which is I guess better than nothing. They didn't play 9-0-1 though that's for sure.

This is interesting so far, Rooney seems to be playing as full back every now and again against the boy.
badger5000
holy cow

Real Madrid 2
Higuain 14, Ramos 56

Barcelona 6
Henry 18, Puyol 20, Messi 35, Henry 57, Messi 75, Pique 83
James D
Watched the game. I expected a Barca thrashing so I suppose in that respect I can't be surprised. But still, I never fail to be amazed by the vast array of footballing geniuses on display for that club.
castaña
That was sweet.
throughsilver
Wish I'd seen it. Hopefully they replicate some of that against Chelsea.
Mitchell
Watched it in a bar in Copenhagen. Amazing scenes.
throughsilver
Right, Liverpool did their job.

If Middlesbrough get an away win next week I will be overjoyed.
Nick
As great as Barca looked over the weekend I still picture a 1-0 Chelsea win at the Bridge. Real Madrid would be a mid-table side in the EPL.

The Barca thrashing is like the Swine Flu - a total media hype.
badger5000
Damp squid at Emirates. 11 of them.
Mitchell
Boring, Ferguson is a massive wanker.
throughsilver
If Barcelona don't kick some fucking arse tomorrow I will be massively displeased.

More so.
Nick
The thought of SAF & Ronaldo raising another CL trophy makes me sick.
Bruegs
Obviously relieved that my mate blackmailed me into selling him my ticket for this but still a sickening night.

No complaints about the result but a lot of complaints about the fundamental injustice of life.

Had to drink a lot of booze to face going into an office full of scum fans last night - finished for the week now so I’m going to get some shut-eye and hopefully we are going to get more than 8mins entertainment tonight.

hazard of living in London innit mad.gif
Bruegs
laugh.gif too true

few things worse than a cockney red
badger5000
for fucks sake, i'm going to boycott the final if chelsea win this
Mitchell
Incredible goal but the idea of those two playing each other bores me greatly.
Bruegs
laugh.gif First shot on target?
Bruegs
Really thought Ballack was going to twat the ref after her turned down the 4th pen
Mitchell
Football eh, bloody hell.
castaña
Good ref.
Worst Barca match ever.
Congratulations Chelsea for being so brave against ten to close things up.
throughsilver
Best match I've read pbp of on the Guardian site ever.
Rad Monkey
My best friend will not talk to me for a week now.

Serves him right, he was starting to gloat and be a cunt by the end. He actually said he would root for Man U, I hope that was just the anger talking.
throughsilver
Nobody should ever have to root for Man U.
Bruegs
Somboardsman Bruegel squeezes into the Barca top he received for his 13th Birthday and heads out for a night of drinking/dancing/gloating

Just when I thought my love for you could not grow any greater.
badger5000
Awesome. That Iniesta, we'd have him at the Albion if he fancied a change of scene.

^ good page here
Nick
I still think La Liga is overrated and that Barca would only be 3rd best in the Premier League over an entire season. But I will be supporting them all the way on the 27th.
