maybe the only record that gives The Avalanches a run for their money as for best dance record of this decade.
Although Since You Left Me is by far the better record, "Feels Like Home," is far and away better than anything of Since You Left Me.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I saw him on Good Morning America this morning and he was all sweaty, freaking the fuck out, wailing like Tom Waits, in front of a 15 piece band, horns, multiple female backups, two banjos, and just...blowing my mind. I'm getting goosebumps listening to "Jacob's Ladder" as I type this. There's some awesome shit going down on this thing.

This is surprisingly not bad. I don't get AMG's review of this at all though, this is actually a decent improvement from the overdramatic "emo" leanings of the first two discs. This is more of a straightforward "rock" album.

Ooo, my first post!

-That's a cool coincidence, I'm not new to her but I've been on a Laura Nyro kick with her Time & Love: The Essential Masters cd. I'm a big fan of female vocals, but I've been listening to them even more than usual with Jenny Lewis w/ the Watson Twins' Rabbit Fur Coat (which is freakishly addictive), Edith Piaf on the Love & Passion box set, and The Very Best of Emmylou Harris.
- Kind of on glam/punk rock kick too and have been spinning a lot of New York Dolls, The Jam (Compact Snap), Adam & the Ants & The Clash's London Calling.

I agree that Jenny Lewis album really grows on you. Still one of my favorite releases this year.

getting myself psyched up for lolla. i always forget how amaaazing this band is, then go back through their catalog and am blown away, and, of course, incredibly depressed.

Welcome! Yeah, this Laura Nyro record I have (Eli) has completely blown me away. I wasn't expecting it to be as complex and melodic as it was. I can't stop listening.

This is their first album (I think) and though they really gelled together as a group later on, this is still a decent record to play now and then.

I wasn't really expecting many other people to show much love for this band on here, but for what they do - they do pretty well. If you are at all a fan of well crafted pop-punk, you should give this one a spin. Decent stuff.

Agreed, all around. AMG seemed to just give it the once-over and claim it to be the same as the last album. While it's certainly more similar to the last one than their debut, it definitely is much more of a rock album than just another emo record.

I'm loving it. "My Blue Heaven" and "Miami" are my current favorites; both are tracks that wouldn't have had a home on either of the previous records.

DJ Dave Seaman - Renaissance: The Masters Series, Vol. 7
Ah, an older mix disc from the Renaissance Label. Most of these are collectible from a sentimental standpoint, as many of the tracks sound rather dated to fresh ears. And we all know just how well trance ages.... But this one's actually held up pretty well. Or at least, disc 1 has. But that's usually how it is with these 2 CD mix sets - one disc is always better than the other.

These guys seem to get a lot of airplay on a couple of the XM stations. They're one of those bands I know nothing about but always seem to notice when I hear them. I hate their name, though. Whenever I see it I automatically expect to hear EMO.

DJ Nick Warren - Global Underground: Reykjavik

Surprisingly downtempo / mellow electronica, with a hint of trance slowly building up. I'm really impressed with this one - it's one of those rare mix CDs that actually demonstrates how an evening is supposed to flow in a nightclub. A slow, melodic build, that hint of trance, then a bit of electro, and then it's off to the races.
