Margot at the Wedding soundtrack
I'm not usually a big fan of soundtracks, but this one is pretty exceptional in quality.
Songs from Dean & Britta, Donovan, X, Blondie, Karen Dalton, The dB's, Dino Jr., Steve Forbert, Alice Cooper... and it really fits the mood of the film.

Ghost Town is the first full-length solo release from Parts & Labor singer/electrician Dan Friel. Characterized by its anthemic melodies, complex electronic arrangements and
huge distorted beats, Ghost Town is an indie record the noise kids will love and a noise record that'll inspire the indie kids to pick up some busted electronic gear and strive for immortality. Ghost Town is where everyone can meet in the middle and freak out about how insanely good this record is. Comparisons are tough but perhaps if In The Aeroplane Over The Sea was sculpted out of distorted noise you might be getting close.

Dan Friel has been using toy keyboards, guitar effects pedals, walkie talkies and r/c car remotes to
make a series of instrumental electronics EPs since 2001. Ostensibly a western, Ghost Town alternates
between dense, distorted, beat-driven epiphanies, and haunting solos from a variety of makeshift
instruments. Ghost Town also features the eye-popping artwork from renowned print/illustration
artist Shawn Reed (Racoo-oo-oon, Night People Records).

(if you plan on playing this in the record shop you work at during open hours you'd
better make sure you've got plenty in stock. This is one of those records you can sell to everyone
from the noise-heads in the corner to fitness moms looking for something to work out to. Dan Friel's
Ghost Town has universal appeal.)

Bit disappointed by this on first listen:

Seems caught between ambient and techno stalls without making much of an impact with either.

I liked this most on first listen. It struck me as kinda beautiful but on subsequent listens it's evaporated a bit. Still love the cover though.

Ill give it another crack soon....Nightwidth and Ludwijka both floored me from the off but this one just sort of floated past.

'4 corners' by mondo generator feat. mark lanegan. such a great song, miles better than any qotsa tune that followed it. better than most which preceded it, for that matter

certainly is, man. figured i might as well put my cds into storage if i'm not gonna use them. got me a 1tb hard drive, ripping lossless files, will end up sending them through a dac at some point. sweet efficiency! and yeah, lots and lots of old faves getting revisited, even if the process is rather laborious. bonus is i can play scratched discs now.

...170gig and counting!

p.s. ripping compilations and the lot. that + shuffle = a wild ride!

The Mill Pond was originally released on vinyl only. This limited edition CD reissue includes the first-ever collection of Fahey's paintings in the accompanying booklet. On this EP, Fahey uses heavy reverb, electric slide, and feedback to create an eerie mood. He gets a bit of help from Jeff Allman, who recorded the songs and adds some electronic noise in spots, and from Scott Colburn, who mixed the tracks, but this record is all Fahey. The Mill Pond is all over the place stylistically, so it should confuse those who try to pigeonhole Fahey into any one category. It further proves that there is only one category into which he fits: truly innovative guitar genius.

Yeah, this is a fantastic album, but this statement pretty much made my nigh (it is one of the silliest things I have read it a while).

Not sure overall, if I like this more than the last Parts and Labor album... but that was a very good record too.

To be fair, the only bands I have gone on record stating I hate around here (that might surprise people) are The Rolling Stones & Jay Retard. And I don't even know that I hate Retard as much as I don't care for him & am amused by the fanboys who think he is some kind of visionary.
