This thing's kind of a waste isn't it? Is that shitty Steely Dan sounding song actually by them, or is my copy fucked up? Still, I absolutely love the demo of "Sugar Pill," so it's got that going for it.

I love how this album just sort of took everything (good and bad) about 70's hard rock and threw it into a huge fucking blender. And I swear that "Apple Tree" is the best White Stripes song Jack White never wrote.

IPB Image

This is some great retro-laden doom right here, lots of lumbering riffs and heaviness.

it's worth a listen or two... i'm still not sure how i feel about it. i am only getting into their first record now as well. this is way different, more mainstream adult alternative sounding.

this, however, is very cool:

So, when I made my list of '75-'84 Albums List contenders, I was all, "Hmm, Ride The Lightning. What should I do with Ride The Lightning? I don't really like 'Escape' and 'Call of Ktulu' is really long, so it just misses the top 50! Sorry, album. I'm sticking to round numbers here! I haven't listened to this record in a longass time, but who cares?"

I'M GLAD I LISTENED TO IT THIS MORNING BECAUSE IT FUCKING RULES. What the balls was I thinking??? I'm listening to "Creeping Death" right now, holy fuck!!!!??

EDIT: Whoa, Ackbar. Freaky coincidence. Great minds.

Whoa, was that Metallica thing really a coincidence?

Dude -- wrinkle in time -- lightning or some shit.

I just like country music these days. Alternative, traditional, fucked up, live, or otherwise.

I don't know what's wrong with me.

Ride the Lightning's going to be in my 75-84 top ten, guaranteed.

Wow! This is pretty incredible. I'm not sure if it surpasses the original studio album, but it definitely has its merits. "Night Goat" and "Lizzy" are great takes... maybe even better than the originals. There's no question that they improve upon their version of the Kiss song "Goin' Blind" as well. I'm having a little trouble with the live version of "Hooch" though. It's played a little faster, and I really love the slow but potent trudge of the original.
Definitely worth checking out.
