Wipers - Is This Real?
SonicAlligator
Mr.Nobody

I liked this,But not as much as Black Sea or Skylarking.Partially because it's really long and some of the songs drag for me.Still an enjoyable record and it has a handful of good songs(The first four songs,Yatch Dance,Melt The Guns,Knuckle Down,Fly On The Wall,etc.).

First listen. Quite a few of these songs stand out on first listen(The Seventh Seal,The World's Strongest Man,Hero Of The War,The Old Man's Back Again.),But the rest of it needs a little time to grow on me. Still some enjoyable stuff and I would be interested in hearing more from him.

This really clicked with me on the first listen. So many catchy numbers here and Richman's lyrics are quite interesting.Plus, it's one of the few instances where the bonus tracks are actually good(Dance With Me is amazing.).Standout Tracks:Hospital,Roadrunner,Astral Plane,Pablo Picasso,Girlfriend.

I've really been stuck on this one lately. It's one of the great anomalies of the cosmos: the good Elvis album.

Murder City Devils -- In Name and Blood
Murder City Devils -- Empty Bottles, Broken Hearts

Just heard the Murder City Devils are playing a few west coast reunion shows next year. I really would love to go to one of them (probably one of the two Seattle shows). Hopefully they end up extending this to cover the midwest, because yeah, I really need to see these guys. Bearded Spencer Moody. Awesome. 'Press Gang' is still such a great song. Shit.

First listen.

EDIT: Meh, not for me. "Sugar Magnolia" was sweet though. I'll probably put that on my mix for my car ride home.

Quinn Walker, Laughter's An Asshole/Lion Land. Listening to this again for the first time since the week it came out. Really wonderful stuff. Is this getting any respect on the year-end lists?

This album bored me to death. What's your take on it, Sonic?
SonicAlligator
Yeah, man. Some other message board criticized me for not having this on my end of the year list, yet having The Carter III. I decided to give it another listen because I hadn't listened to it since it first came out. Sure, the lyrics are good and cryptic like most of GZA's shit, but the beats are definitely boring and weak. I lost interest about halfway through. The song "Pencil" is tight. Unfortunately, it's the first actually song on the album and it seems to slowly descend in enjoyment from there.

I don't think so. Not sure if they even have a label in the US anymore.

Emperor/Enslaved - Hordanes Land split album.

Didn't know about this till I read a mention in Sask's article about Enslaved. It sounded too good to not try... especially since I'm only familiar with more recent Enslaved.

EDIT: Damn these are great bands. Tons of weird sounding synth, and is that piano in Balfadr? Honestly never thought I'd hear such embellishments in the first releases from second wave BM bands.

Listened to that this morning. Aside from the Sun stuff, it's the only Elvis I ever listen to.

It snowed here in Pullman, WA for the first time, and this sounds SO good:

Having lived in WA all my life, there's something distinctly Washingtonian about this album for me.
