I've been obsessed with those Big Star albums lately. Such brilliant songwriting. And the guitar work on "O My Soul" is unbelievable. I sort of rediscover these albums every 6 months or so, and am blown away all over again.
Awesome. I've loved Big Star for years, but I rediscovered them harder than ever several months ago.
Radio City is the one that I've played the most as a result of that. I didn't used to love it as much as the other two, but I'm now realizing how kickass the whole thing is. Chris Bell leaving somehow led to them stepping up their game as a band. The guitarwork and drumming all over that album is seriously underrated and great and serves the slightly more massive songs like "O My Soul" (one of my favorite things to play on guitar... well,
try to play, anyway) and "Daisy Glaze" so well.
Also been playing the shit out of the solo Alex Chilton records
Like Flies On Sherbert and
Bach's Bottom, which are better than I could have ever hoped they'd be.
