Mojave 3 -- Ask Me Tomorrow. This is a great one, an old favorite of mine and it reminds me I have to get the new one. Anyone heard their new cd yet? It's supposed to be really poppy.

Oh my yes. Puzzles Like You. It's poppy, but in the best way possible. It shimmers and sparkles like a sunshine summer's day. A quick vault into my best of 2006 top 10 or 15. I didn't know that Neil Halstead had this kind of record in him, as Mojave 3 has largely bored me until this one. Get it!

Yeah, Ask Me Tomorrow is the only one I like, really. But after hearing samples of the new one, I'm confident it's good. I'm gonna pick it up soon!

what is this?

He's a gritty street musician/protest singer from NYC in the late 60's. Lots of anti-Vietnam sentiment, legalization of marijuana, anti-authority, etc. Not too different from The Fugs.
It's actually new to me as well - a friend just gave me a copy. Apparently his first two albums have been out-of-print for ages (both are collected on this CD).

I listened to Have A Marijuana about a year ago. I hated it and deleted it from my computer immediately.

I'm still undecided on this. It hasn't made it to the hard drive or the iPod yet though.
My guess is that this music was much better in its proper time context.

Does anybody have the Something for Joey single that has the Robert Creeley collaboration on it?

I love this recording, but foolishly sold it when I was underemployed and desperate for cash.

Isn't the "Something For Joey" EP/single/whatever the one with the Ron Jeremy interview at the end?

I've had this since it leaked a few weeks ago, but I'm finally just getting around to listening to it now. I'm sort of dissapointed with it. Maybe it's just that I don't listen to enough "pop" releases, but it is incredibly front-loaded. The last half isn't terrible, but it is mostly ballads and slow songs that kill any momentum that it starts out with. The songs aren't horrible, but just boring compared to the singles and even to the songs from her first two albums that I've heard.

IPB Image
This is another one that I've had for a while and only just listened to. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it after reading all of the negative feedback on it here when it leaked. There's not too much to it depthwise, but listening to it was still an enjoyable was to spend 45 minutes.

Time Out said almost the same thing, but I have to agree with you and them. Those ballads fuckin ruin it for me. The highs are high, no doubt, but like DeRo likes to say, there a 5 or 6 songs on that album that I don't want to hear ever again in my life.

Anyone else heard this, or heard of it? 'O'Rang -- Herd of Instinct. It's the other members of Talk Talk (without Mark Hollis) and they do some kind of ambient world music in the vein of late Talk Talk, but more dub style. I just got it off a blog, and really like it. There are contributors on it like Beth Gibbons, one of the guys from Bark Psychosis, too.
