Guster - Ganging Up on the SunI know that Guster isn't hip in the least, but this album is pretty fantastic. At the end of the day, I'm always going to gravitate to guitar-based pop with hooks, lyrical insight and strong vocals, and this album has it all and then some. The chorus of "Satellite", the verses of "One Man Wrecking Machine", the countrified instrumental break of "The Captain", the crunchy riffage in "The New Underground" and "The Beginning of the End", the spare poignancy of "Empire State", the whole of the epic "Ruby Falls"--all great.
Corinne Bailey RaeI like it. A nice coffee house vibe that's both folky and soulful, he says, sipping his non-fat mocha.
David Ford - I Sincerely Apologize For All of the Trouble I've CausedFinally got this after seeing him open for Gomez and being suitably impressed. Musically varied for a singer-songwriter album, although it's definitely a politically and personally-charged and in-your-face singer-songwriter album. And yes that Parental Advisory label is every bit as large as shown. Is anybody buying this really going to be offended by some f-bombs? Sony are a bunch of fucking wimps.
