The Riverboat Gamblers - Underneath the Owl

I'm more disappointed than I am surprised that this lacks most of the power and energy of seeing these guys live.
_______
if you like solo acoustic guitar, ragas, fingerpicking, etc i really recommend this record

If only Yancy could see this.

Grant-Lee Phillips - Little Moon
_______
how is that^^^ Phillips record? i haven't really kept up with his solo stuff.

i just got this Surfer Blood record and it's really fucking good... college rock (?), 90's indie guitar pop, 80's new wave, smart writing and hooks galore. i think a lot of people here will like this record when it comes out.

moins

Julian Casablancas - Phrazes for the Young
Only listened to the whole album once, but I played 11th Dimension five or six times. So, theres that.

DJ Shadow - Entroducing
I'm not sure what took me so long to get to this, from the first track I was totally immersed and entertained.
Ned

Annie, Weezer, Link Wray. Big three for me this week.

I'm pretty impressed so far. He's still got a great voice and writes well.
This is a bit more varied than GLB with horns and strings, but it's good.

I'll trade ya for some Surfer Blood. ;-)

What's the Amerie like?

The KK/BBQ didn't really do it for me on the first couple of listens. God knows I love both those dudes, but it sounded like they were too stoned to write more than half an album's worth of decent songs this time around. Or maybe I just need to over and over it like Sid H.

It's a better album than the only other entire Amerie album I've heard, Touch. Fantastic songwriting (and singing obv) for the first two thirds of the album. The upbeat tracks are great, there are a few sub-3-minute punk rock gems even; even though "Heard 'Em All" still sounds like a cheap copy of "Turnin' Me On," it's enjoyable. There are some slower tracks that have some of the greatest melodies, "Red Eye" and "Swag Back" especially. "Swag Back" is like some modern feminist anthem -- Amerie Gets Her Swag Back. And there's two great guest tracks in a row -- a cheesy romantic duet with Trey Songz and a song with a great verse by Fabo.

Blah blah blah "burn it." Good album.

Hey Jade

Gotta admit it - typos aside, the tracklist is OTM

Love @ 1st listen for me, and I'm more of a Shrines fan, so go figure. I'm loving the songwriting, singing along and shit.
