ehh, it's alright. I know Bobzilla is a fan of this one. I enjoy the energy this time
around but it isn't hitting me very heavy on melodic levels. There are a couple good
songs so far, but a lot seems a bit forgettable(typical Mojave 3)I'll keep spinning, though.
Anyone else pick this one up yet/reactions?

on heavy rotation lately. perhaps my favorite of theirs?

some good stuff, but a little too disco pop on there. I'm going to try out
Behavior next, heard it would be more up my alley.

Pixies - Doolittle
Pedro the Lion - It's Hard to Find a Friend
Junior Boys - So This is Goodbye
Figurine - Reconfigurine Remix CD

A couple of years ago, I wouldn't have been caught dead (no pun) with this...

but now, I'm literally falling in love with the Grateful Dead. This collection is fucking great for either the Deadhead, or a neophyte like myself. I have all five discs on random and am just soaking it all in and reading the notes on every song when it pops up. There are studio outtakes, demos, live jams, studio rehearsals, multi-song live transitions, and other handpicked oddities peppered in the mix. If I get the chance, I might up this thing next week -- it's five discs and I have family in this weekend, so the two or three of you who might be interested will have to wait.

yeah, I dunno. It's good, but it's not exactly Purple Rain, is it? Just because there's a lot of weird and ambitious stuff on it doesn't really make it the masterwork everyone says it is. Some great songs, sure--the singles namely, and "Strange Relationship," "Play in the Sunshine," etc.-but it probably won't make my list.

I love the second disc. First disc is good. I gave it a courtesy vote.
At the risk of sounding unfashionable, am I the only one who wishes he did more rock tunes? I've never heard a Prince rock song I didn't like.

2nd disc is definitely better (no songs like "Starfish & Coffee") but I don't much care for the ballads.
What do you mean by rock Prince? The funky, upbeat stuff or the straight rock / pop songs like "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man"? Uptempo Prince can be a beautiful thing indeed. "Hot Thing" might be the best song on Disc 1.

Yeah, like "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man". It's perfect. And when those guitars come in on "The Cross"...holy crap.

Perfect.

In honor of the thread, I like this album.

This album is absolutely gorgeous and wonderful, but I've heard very little about it here. I know it hasn't been released stateside yet, but Harcourt is very consistent in his releases, and seems to actually be getting better.

My brother has become obsessed with Dragonforce recently. Ever since we watched their video On Demand (which not only features duling guitar solos, but offers Picture-in-Picture closeups of their hands working the fretboards as they solo) he's been bugging me to burn their CD for him.
Pavement Ist Rad
Jul 24 2006, 10:07 AM
Ah, Dragonforce. I was talking to this kid at school and he was all, "Yeah, I only listen to power metal these days. I'm going to get a Dragonforce tattoo." And then his girlfriend looked all confused, so he was like, "I'm not really going to get a Dragonforce tattoo," to be reassuring and shit. Yep. Also, the drummer of my teenage band POISON CONTROL is obsessed with Dragonforce. He brings them up everyday and shit. He's like, "Let's play Dragonforce covers." Doof.

One of the best compilations I own. The "new songs" on here are so much better than anything on that shit-filled shit-fest called
Man-Made.

"Once Is Enough" is awesome.

Number of songs I really like on the best-of (minus three of the ones I really like on

I suppose
Bandwagonesque is better. Still, "Ain't That Enough," "Neil Jung," "My Uptight Life," "Your Love Is The Place That I Come From," "Everything Flows," "I Need Direction"...all as good as the best songs on
Bandwagonesque. But, yeah, listening to it last night, I realized that there were quite a few more completely non-interesting songs than I remember there being. Still. Eh...

most of these tracks were recorded in the 50's and early 60's, not nearly as old-timey sounding as the AoAFM stuff.
