Halfway through, and this is a fucking revelation. Holy shit. I have never heard a single one of these tracks or OF a single one of the artists. If I have, then I certainly don't remember them. And they're ALL great, so far/somehow. Jesus. Without speech, over here.

That is an incredibly good call, right there. Although it kind of gets me in the mood to kick some random mouth breather, you know, in the mouth, I can totally see that. Gotta break out my old home videos and throw some of this over a stunt montage or two.

what do like about them? i have tried with more than a few and just absolutely want to kill him and myself when i hear them.
he should have never played those shows a few years back, the legend was the only thing he really had going for him. isn't there a movie about him now? anybody see it?

The documentary came out several years ago. It's pretty cool even if you don't dig the music. So are the live recordings he's done since he started appearing in public (just the "pretty cool" part, not the "even if you don't dig the music" part, obviously), so I guess I approve of his decision to do so.
I see Jandek as being in the tradition of prolific artists who merge (using this term loosely) rock elements with more avant-garde, free improvisation based ones, all while maintaining a highly mysterious aura that partially arises from the puzzling fact that they've spent so many years putting out album after album after album, much to the delight of their still pretty damn miniscule fanbases... Fushitsusha, The Dead C, Sun City Girls (R.I.P.), etc. "The legend" has definitely fucked his reputation over in that sense, as it has attracted many listeners who could give half a fuck about music like that and approach Jandek in hopes of hearing the CRAZIEST shit ever made, music that is song-based in the traditional sense of the term (god forbid), or both.
I like all of my Jandek CDs. I like how the music captures the mood created by the album covers, one of being caught in an abyss of crummy rural/suburban isolation. A lot of it can be very unsettling and goes well with lonesome nighttime listening, which I like. For music that's so very primitive, there's a lot of variation among the albums, which I also like. There's usually not much in the way of hooks (joke printed in an issue of Chunklet last year: Why do fish like Jandek?), although I could still probably sing a bit of every track on Blue Corpse. I listen to his music all the time, but I know better than to recommend it to anyone.

that new motion city soundtrack album is actually pretty good if you're into catchy sugary rock. produced by mark hoppus, so it has a really respectable pedigree. but honestly its a very tight execution of the glossy pop punk pioneered by blink and green day back in the day, and the guy's voice isn't annoying either. i've never listened to anything by this band before but was intrigued by the high metacritic score and the album delivers pretty much exactly what you'd want out of the genre. "her words destroyed my planet" is fairly irresistible.
