Fe-Mail - Blixter Toad

Got this in the mail today. Brilliant stuff. Best new noise album I've heard in a while.

QUOTE
FE-MAIL, MAJA RATKJE and HILD SOFIE TAFJORD, have crafted a site-specific survey of the chaparrals of noise music. As half of the Scandinavian female improv quartet, SPUNK, they began to adapt their mediums of french horn and voice to multiple formats for musical arrangements. Exposure to distorted live sampling and field recordings allowed MAJA and HILD to grab the limit and make it their instrument.

This two disc set is best described as the taxonomic designation of feminine conviction through gadgetry and acoustic archaeology. Two embryonic visual studies (videos) by MASAKO TANAKA are included, featuring shot surveillance from the live sessions for the recording of Blixter Toad. The chromatic genus of the species call is best known by its vocal sac that blows up like a balloon and bellows "scheweeeeeeeee" riffs. Their cut up crescendos of piercing frequencies appear like rattle snakes you find under the rocks, as you search for a jewel-encrusted music box, unsure if they'll poison you or cure you. A voice screams like an effected guitar in the distance, reminding you to come home from the thicket before the animals become more aggressive. Blixter Toad's final track coalesces into the Sunday morning dew collecting on the surface of FE-MAIL'S electro-acoustic lily-pads.

Is this album good?
The Good Dr Bill
very, though you already know the two best songs ("Son of Mustang Ford" and "Rave Down"). Only listened once but at the very lest it's Nine Tracks from That Band That Did Mezcal Head and in reality it's probably even better than that.
RabbiSchmoiley
M.J. - "Off the Wall" (CLASSIC SHIT!)
Pixies - "Surfer Rosa"
Pixies - "Doolittle" (I'm a tad obsessed right now)

Kind of interesting experimental work from amazing trio of Duane Denison, James Kimball, Ken Vandermark. Although not nearly as good as I expected.

This can't really be as disappointing as I remember, can it? Has to be probably a year since I listened to the whole thing, dust it off and try again. Only on the first song, Square One isn't terrible. The album as a whole is just very overblown and lyrically trite. When/if they return with album #4, hopefully they'll learn from this and improve. This is what happens when bands get big.

What do you think of this? I really like it, I'm not sure exactly how to describe it but 'Fest seems to have this level of self-deprication and humility that Kanye lacks. I find him much more real and easier to swallow most of the time. I like the "blue collar" aesthetic a lot more than the "college dropout" thing right now... "I know more niggas at U-Haul than haul crack". I could live without the tracks where he slides into the mainstream bling and bitches cliches though. I get a strong Biz Markie vibe on a couple of tracks and thats not a bad thing.

What do you think of this?

I like it a lot. It sounds like it should have been released in the late 90s, which is fine for me, but might make it tough for sales. Do the kids still like this sort of thing?

He's obviously a great MC. I like the NO ID beats a lot, as well as some of the others. That flip of the Strokes for "Devil's Pie" works far better than it should. I figured it would be really dorky, but I really like that track.

I think this is far more interesting than Fishscale, which I really still love a lot.

This is better than I remember:

That, my friends, is Killdozer's Twelve Point Buck/Little Baby Buntin' twofer, which Mouth Breather so kindly sent me a copy of. Thanks!!! Way back in the day, I somehow obtained one of those "Annoying Music Show Holiday CD"'s from NPR. The last song was Killdozer's cover of "One Tin Soldier." What the hell? It was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard. Awesome that they reappeared in my life years later and bit me in the ass with HEAVY ROCK AWESOMENESS.
