Still an awesome album, I don't think it's lost any of its luster yet, though plays are becoming fewer and farther between.

So, I'm cramming for the album poll. Not digging Swervedrive as much as most of the board, but it's not bad. Same can be said for the Flaming Lips. The power pop / britpop is awesome though. Really, really great stuff. And how cool is the cover of Frosting on the Beater?

Years from now, when we're all aging rock critics, we will look back on this album and recognize it as one of this decade's absolute best, while Sufjan and Funeral are forgotten by all. This is a fact.

The Fags - Mistake
The EP version only, the album version is fucking neutered--the EP version is glorious. Discovered this band on Pandora after typing in "Verbena". This is far and away their best song that I've heard thus far.

Destroyer - European Oils
Mammoth Volume - Seagull
Sheavy - Last of the V8 Interceptors
Eagles of Death Metal - Keep Your Head Up
Girl Talk - Smash Your Head, Bounce That
Firefall - Just Remember I Love You
Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief
My Morning Jacket - Dondante (live 11/23/05)
The Horror The Horror - Twice In A Lifetime
Van Halen - DOA
Sonic Youth - Pink Steam
Twilight Singers - Underneath the Waves (I like the album, but it is just missing something for me overall)
Velocity Girl - Forgotten Favorite
Jon Auer - Bottom of a Bottle
Ryan Adams - Cherry Lane

Still quite obviously the Best Album of 2005. Listen to it daily. THERE IS A PLACE PAST THE BLUES I NEVER WANNA SEE AGAIN!!! Yes. Starlite Walker becoming one of my favorite albums ever has really emphasized just how much David Berman sounds like a drunken old man on Tanglewood Numbers. And it's awesome. Fiddles and slide guitar and shit like that. Yes.

IPB Image

I should have voted for it in the 2005 poll, really. I've listened to it maybe three or four times this year! That's more than I can say for Architecture In Helsinki or System of a Down. The fuck is that shit? I love the ends of years because that's when I hear something like 50 new albums and maybe 15 of them are amazing and the rest are just music that I wouldn't normally listen to ever. Or they're just awful. Like A Bigger Bang or Harvey Danger or some shit.

IPB Image

Classic. Someday I will hear his other albums that are not Rubies. Don't bother uploading them for me because I won't download them. I hope he plays this album in its entirety today. "Certain Things You Ought To Know" = wow. Why doesn't all the reverb make it sound shitty instead of awesome? Yep.

Stag is definitely the turning point of the melvins more artistic shit coming out. great album. speaking of melvins, is that the same Youth of america that they covered? i dig that song. so old school.

Yes, that is the same "Youth of America" - originally done by the Wipers.
Great song. I might even say slightly improved by the Melvins.

I'm not sure that I think Stag is their best album (who can really pick?), but they got a lot more experimental at that point.

Best of Pooh and Friends and Heffalumps, Too - V/A

This is on continuous loop in the car right now, if I put anything else on my Gran'Daughter shouts "No! Pooh! G'igger! NO!" until I put it back on. Right now I have Carly Simon singing (age hasn't been all that kind to the upper register of her voice, has it?) "With A Few Good Friends" & "In The Name Of The Hundred Acre Wood/What Do You Do?" over & over & over&over.... At least she doesn't mind us fast forwarding past "The Promise" & "Luv-a-Bye."
