Picked this up at Pitchfork, since I only have Rubies (all the others are burned copies). For $10 I couldn't pass it up, and I've been looking to purchase his entire back catalog for awhile now. I thought CD prices at the merch tent were pretty reasonable, I got Tapes 'n Tapes for $10 too. Hells yeah!

Except for the Silver Jews discs, those were all $15 for some reason. Not horrible, but disappointing after seeing most discs going for $10-$12.

"Black Flowers" is a Mercury Rev song. "Mr. Tough" is a Ween song. This is surprisingly eclectic.

I found Disc 1 of this used at Cheapo a couple years ago. I'm not sure I even need Disc 2...feelin' a little bit country this morning.

Remember last year when I went to the indie rock festival and the Wrens blew my mind and I couldn't stop listening to them for a week? I'm having the same experience with Jens. These songs are just incredible. I used to hate "A Higher Power," but now it's the most beautiful thing ever. Fuck yes.

An incredible singer, completely underrated as a Pop artist. Does that collection have "A Good Year for the Roses"? One of his best, pop hooks but still all country.

Ditto. Thanks a lot for posting this for me!

Years from now, when we're all aging rock critics, we will look back on this album and recognize it as one of this decade's absolute best, while Sufjan and Funeral are forgotten by all. This is a fact.

Ha, ha, yeah. And it was never Dare. It was always Travelogue. And then there was Sigue Sigue Sputnik. And ABC's The Lexicon Of Love. I miss Zero and his "Who is better? Skinny Puppy or PiL" thread.

Nope, I have to work Friday and Saturday, so the only day I am going is Sunday. I'll probably catch them in Champaign in September. Some people may disagree with me on this, but I think they are the best band to come out of Chicago's Northwest Suburbs.

Actually I agree with you, and they are also one of the few bands to come from the NW Suburbs.
I went to school with and grew up the Caterer brothers, and they were about the only thing going out that way. And certainly the only to achieve that level of success.

I just went to the Josh & Eli semi-acoustic show at Schuba's last week. That was a lot of fun. Josh played there every Tuesday in July. I would recommend something like that if he ever does another stint over there.

I played this about 3-4x over the course of a few days about a month ago, and each time I was more and more blown away about how great it is. When I read the news today, all of its songs started floating around in my head, and I wanted to listen to it more than anything. Sadly I don't have it around, so I'll have to wait until I get home from work. sad.gif

Except Nellie Mckay. I used to like quite a few songs off of that record, but I listened to it the other day and she's such a smug, smarmy little shit doodle. For most of that one hour and five minutes, I just wanted to punch her in the face. Not a good listening experience. No, sirree.
