I love this album. I'm sure that it will make my year end list.

What about you?

Yeah, Paves, what do you think of the Enslaved album? One of the year's better metal releases, I think.

QUOTE(mouthbreather @ Aug 9 2006, 08:41 AM)

I thought she might have hung it up after her first album bombed.
Any good?

It's in the same vein as the last album. Starts of quite strongly, then tends to pile on the ballads. Still pretty decent, though.

I was close to being convinced of how good Walker is on his last album, but this one really tips it in. Indie spirit mixed with glam and a beautiful pop varnish encasing the whole thing. It's nice to see "Bethamphetamine (Pretty Pretty)" get some love, too. Smart rock with a pop sensibility. Nice.

I saw them a couple years ago at the Metro, but I didn't like them at the time so I barely paid attention. Now that I hear how awesome the albums are, I'm really pissed at myself.

They were so, so, so great back in the day. I saw them a bunch of times when I was down in Champaign, never did catch any of the reunion shows though.

You need, NEED, to check out both volumes of the Movie Music series if you haven't already. All of Braid's best stuff never saw an album proper.

I've got Volume 1 which is awesome ("Motion Light" holy shit), but I heard Volume 2 kind of sucks so I never bothered. Not true?
Alky 2009
Well yeah, One is the far better of the two, but Two has some great moments as well - "Grand Theft Autumn" and "Painting Nebraska" are two off the top of my head. And there's some fun covers to wrap up the disc, two Smiths covers and a version of "Always Something There To Remind Me" that is probably in my Top 100 songs of all time.

I LOVE THIS MAN.

Its a mental massage. Its Daft Punk on Valium. And the disco-swell in "Beautone" flays me nine ways to Sunday.

Apparently this is what they call "microhouse." I've never been much on the dance-related genres, but this shit is intense. Somebody point me to more.

No way, they are an awesome live band. Their show at Schuba's last fall was awesome, blew Snap Your Pans off the stage.

Yeah, Paves, what do you think of the Enslaved album? One of the year's better metal releases, I think.

The Drudkh and Enslaved albums are really cool. I really dig the shoegaze influence on the latter.

Dead As Dreams is fucking awesome. That's some brutal shit right there. Yeah. I'm looking forward to the next time I listen to it.

how is the Goo Goo Dolls album, Paves? I used to own it but I only ever listened to the singles.

It's actually a pretty solid rock album. The not-Johnny Rzeznik guy is annoying, though. And what the fuck is up with "Slave Girl"? Ah, who gives a shit. If you find a used copy for under four dollars, you should probably pick it up.

It's not the best of his solo work. However, there are some outstanding tracks-- "Cathedral of The Mind", "Trams Of Old London", and "Autumn Is Your Last Chance" come to mind.
