I'm listening to this right now...

...and it feels so fucking good to know that THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT IT IS THE GREATEST ALBUM EVER MADE.

I could feel tears gathering in my eyes during "Here." Fortunately, there was no such erruption. It was pretty close to the edge, down by a river, not right away, not right away, though.

wow I really hate how the first half is so phenomenal and the second half is so dull. Disappointing. First half cannot be touched though.

I suppose I could understand a person not totally digging "Desire As" (this person sucks at life, of course) but "Horsin' Around"? "Movin' The River"? Maybe you need to listen to it 18 more times.

Re: Oxford Collapse

That cover is badass.

And I want the album. Cool.

EDIT: Listening to "The Boys Go Home" right now. It feels like September 2005 all over again. THIS IS INDIE ROCK.

Giddy Motors - Do Easy

I think I just found my album of the year. If you like stuff like Shellac or The Jesus Lizard you really need to check this album out (as well as their first album, Make It Pop).

Whoa, this band requested me to be their MySpace friend about a month ago! I guess they like me or something. Oddly enough, they are one of the few bands that has requested me who aren't a bunch of squares. I'm going to listen to their album tonight then!

I think you'll dig it. My only complaint is it's too short. Only 32 minutes and the last track is just 5 minutes of random guitar noise. The rest is awesome though.
Pavement Ist Rad
Hey, Burzum, did you download the Clockcleaner album that William Tell posted back in December? Really good AmRep style noise-rock.

Also, if anyone here happens to have a "mastered" version of the album, I would love for them to upload it.

I did but I lost it in a hard drive crash earlier this year. I'd love to hear it again. Another band in this same sort of style you should check out is Pissed Jeans. I think it might be time for a noise-rock Y-S-I thread.
Pavement Ist Rad
I'll up it for you.

A "modern noise-rock" thread would be awesome. I've been really craving that sort of thing lately. At some point recently, I just realized, "Alright, there was Fun House in 1970, Generic Flipper in 1980, Goat in 1991...what the hell is there from this decade that would fit in this pattern? Do people still make great, abrasive noise-rock records? Is this style of music dying or something? Huh???"

any and all "Pirate" and "Sea Shanty" comments should definitely stop with this record. quite a direction change for them. pretty Prog'd out, 2nd song sounds like Yes a ton.

i like it a lot, despite how insanely different it is to their first 2 records, but i'm sure some fans of their older sound might have a hard time getting into this one.

I agree, solace. This record has a totally different sound than anything they have done before, but what do we know? We both like Guster.

Awesome, glad to see some people finally picking up on this band. I've been pimping them for years. You guys need to hear their first album, Make It Pop (engineered by Albini). It's even better than the new one. I'll Y.S.I. later.

Let's talk about Smog for a second. I don't really care for Knock Knock. There was a thread last year where I declared it to be my favorite Smog album. Since then, I have changed my mind. I loved it because of its diversity, but I realize now that the only songs I really like are the "diverse" ones. "Let's Move To The Country," "Held," "No Dancing," "Cold Blooded Old Times," and "Hit The Ground Running," to be more specific. They all sound like Callahan is trying to make some sort of pop masterpiece, but the rest of the album is just slow and lifeless and I can't sit through it.

Of course, The Doctor Came At Dawn (the album pictured above) is also pretty slow and lifeless, but I fucking love it. Smog is good. I should have ranked A River Ain't Too Much To Love higher on my year-end list last year. Something tells me that that record is only going to grow better over time.
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و ب
I have pretty much the same opinion of Knock Knock that you do. Great songs, but only when he bothers to put effort into them. Nobody needs "River Guard".
