Hard to believe an album of this album has stayed relatively under the radar for so long, a definite sleeper pick for top five records of the nineties. It's just such a quietly beautiful record, sparse instrumentation, Tracey Thorne has such an awesome, soft voice and the lyrics are superb. Bedsit music they call it. Melancholy modern folk. Simple but oh so affecting. Try this one out people.

Michael Kiwanuka, check him out before they get to him. The these things and those thing of 2012 are starting to pile up
really love the vibe on this album. top notch

It's a real nice piece of music. Feels lived in like The Band's records, or the best Kristofferson records.

Yeah, he was definitely the lamest Band member.

I slept on this record until it was way too late in the year for the year-end voting. This definitely would have been my number 1.
I liked that album too, but I can't quite figure out why and I've yet to read any compelling criticism about it. Any leads?

"Coming Down Again" is my other favorite from that album.
certainly an album with a reputation that has been tarnished purely based on the album it proceeded. its full of top notch Rolling Stones songs.

I just heard this for the first time last week and I am feeling exactly the same way...
The record company asked him for more songs like 'Oh, What A Glorious Thing' and were disappointed when handed the LP. They knew best though, as the hooky pop stuff here is a lot better than the boring political rap. Beats are solid throughout, but still fun summer grindie tunes > earnest flows with a serious message. Dude isn't a good enough rapper to make me care about his causes, so I only care when he makes it all sounds catchy and fun and dancy, like on 'Thanks For All The AIDS'. Isn't a good idea to base a tune around a bad joke like 'Bankers'. 6/10 LP right here.
Some angry ass music here, I like it. Even if I'm only in the mood to play it once a year or so.

I like a good deal of this,But some of the songs don't do much for me. The more 50's sounding ones I like the most.
I paid way more than I'd admit to for that '63 UK Cash EP, but damn it sounds so good. By contrast, the Red Sovine LP was had for $1, and right now it's paying off big time.
Listening to this on Spotify. Beautiful music, I need a physical copy of this.
