That'll be the Scott Kelly influence...
So do I need to know more about Tribes of Neurot & Blood and Time? Endarken me.
Tribes of Neurot is something else entirely. I've not really kept up to date with that side of things, but it's their ambient side (well, technically, Neurosis is just one element of Neurot, but I'm talking musically). They did an album called
Silver Blood Transmission in 1995, which was them exprimenting with non-guitar sound creation in preparation for
Through Silver In Blood really. 1998's
Static Migration was a cool little deal, with a 16 minute incredibly noisy centrepiece. They also did an album that was three vinyl discs of various sizes, called
Adaptation and Survival. It was all insect sounds, and represented the peak of their hippy dementia. They did something else last year, but I haven't got it yet.
It's telling that their best album was the one mixing the ambient side of things into the Neurosis framework.
Blood & Time is kinda the equivalent to the Steve Von Till solo albums - music that is quiet, beautiful and a bit disturbing. Their Angels of Light, if you will.
I'm hyped because, apparently, Scott Kelly has been going round saying that the next Neurosis album will be their heaviest since
Through Silver In Blood. It's heartening that he referred specifically to that album. Maybe he saw what his band wrought (most Hydra Head bands) and decided it was time to show everyone who the daddies really are...

And I just stuck 'Her Lips Were Wet With Venom' on the Death Deck. Stupidly good, and solidifies Altar as my AOTY.
So it seems like I may have seen this discussed around here before, but are there different versions of this album? The rip I have doesn't have that track.
Yeah, it's officially the
Altar 'Prelude' and the inclusion of Carlson makes it into essentially sunnO)))/Boris/Earth. Only 5000 copies in the world - but then I have three t-shirts of a run of 100 designed by O'Malley, so I'm quite exclusive as it is.
