I am of the mindset that artists should release every single thing they do, since there's always going to be at least one person who likes any given recording. That's why Guided By Voices were so awesome.

Because when artists release material that isn't their best, rather than taking it as simply giving their fans more to listen to, critics review it harshly and criticize it for no fucking reason. See:

If you're referring to Neil Young, I guess you are, fans of him are criticizing the release because the
recording at the time is amazing, bootlegs of the concerts at the time are double disc treasures, and
the fans have waited years to hear a cleaned up major label release that was unedited.

Neil had talked for years and years about how he was going to release his vaults with tons of material,
and his first release is SIX songs from a concert that had like two hours of material? I can understand
why people are upset about this.

I think the offical line is that these were the only songs from the set that the recording was of a high enough sound quality for Neil to release.

I really like this album. If I'd gotten into it sooner, I might have put it on my year-end list, but I've only recently been listening to it regularly. Got it for Christmas, too.

Yep. I'm pretty sure that goes for the acoustic set, as well.

Besides, the thing is 43 minutes long! That's good enough for me. I am a fairly hardcore Neil Young fan, and I think the release is great. Sure, it would be nice to have the whole thing, but what's there is a whole album's worth of awesomeness.

Really good album, yeah. Especially if you're on the insane Neil Young kick that I am on right now. Listened to it last night, and played guitar along with it this morning. Maybe the best representation of what Neil playing with Crazy Horse was all about? Even if it's not their best? 'Cause it's just pure Crazy Horse awesomeness and not much else??? Eh????? 'Cept for that Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song at the end.

Reading Wikipedia, I learned that "Danger Bird" is Lou Reed's all-time favorite song! Dude has good flippin' taste.

You know, I haven't listened to this album in a longass time. We're talking years, my friend. Maybe because I dismissed it as "too mainstream." Possibly. A comeback, sure, but it's nowhere near as vital sounding as much of his work throughout the 90s, what with the HUGE DRUMS in "Don't Cry," Linda Ronstadt backing vocals throughout the album, etc.

Well, guess the fucking what? It's actually way better than I remember it ever being! What the hell is with that sudden blast of guitar noise in "Eldorado"?! And who the fuck plays a cover of "On Broadway" and angrily yells "GIMME THAT CRACK!!!" near the end of it? NEIL YOUNG IS AWESOME.
Pavement Ist Rad
IPB Image

Fuck yeah! Time for a shitty bootleg! From the Whitten era! YES!!!!!!

Anyone who bitches about the Fillmore CD not being complete enough... this is probably as good as you're going to get to a whole show from that tour. The quality isn't great, but it's not bad, either. It's soundboard, but SHITTY soundboard. Acoustic guitar is way too trebly! These sound like four track demos. Which is awesome, I guess. Suck my cock, goodbye!

IPB Image

Okay, the first two songs are a couple of Buffalo Springfield songs with overdubbed TV audience sounds, except the songs are all shitty and muffled for some reason. Maybe they were recorded directly from the Ed Sullivan Show or some shit?

Something tells me that this is a pretty worthless release of some sort.

Oh, and the last track on the album "Let's Go Away For Awhile" wasn't included in the torrent I downloaded for no good reason. Maybe it's the FUCKING AWESOME BEACH BOYS SONG OF THE SAME NAME!!!!!!! Oh my god. I listened to Pet Sounds a few days ago. Yes.

EDIT: Whoa, high quality live recording of "Find The Cost of Freedom." Did Graham Nash just say, "Quiet, now, quiet"? Has the dude ever even performed live before? Pussy dildo guy.

Ok. now, I really want to hear neil young cover a beach boys track. Could be really shitty but I'm hoping for awesome. Probably good that it's an instrumental track.

QUOTE(Mark Prindle's review of the album)
This is a double album featuring live and behind-the-scenes snippets of Buffalo Springfield, Neil and people who aren't related to the band at all (symphony music? church music? The Beach Boys? Larry Hagman's wrist-snappin' rubber band?).

Since this is just a shitty soundtrack featuring completely randomass shit, I'm assuming that it's just a clip of the Beach Boys song tacked onto the end for no good reason.

I was right, pretty worthless release. I'm deleting this shit. I might keep the live "Ohio," though.

I used to own that record - probably played it through once. The Buffalo Springfield stuff is from The Smothers Brothers TV show appearance (the footage for that stuff is pretty cool).

Graham Nash gets on my nerves pretty fast - he definitely has a nack for uttering clueless hippie bullshit. I heard a CSNY bootleg in a store recently and Nash was explaining that their show was proof that they care about all the people in prison (because, of course, when you hear their music you are truly free - if only just for that moment).

I want to like this more than I do, because the songs are good, but the production is so shitty. It's flat and two-dimensional, and really just doesn't flatter the band at all. Fridmann sucks.

Three plays in and I’m loving this. I was a bit apprehensive when I heard all the found-sound PR for this release….I feared a “yes I soundtrack computer games but I can do avant garde too” album of affectations but I was wrong to doubt. The cornucopian source material has been paired to compliment rather than to jar or contradict.
This is vintage Tobin......melodic brutality.

Thank fuck for the annual treasure trove of stuff I didn't know about that is the Wire EOY list. Lotsa cool stuff in there among the predictable (Burial won? Oh my stars), and this is what stands out at the moment. Like a more pleasant Scott Walker album, this is dense without being lush, and smart without being dorky. Apparently Mt. Zion people are involved, and I think I saw Alan Sparhawk mentioned in a writing credit or two. This would have been an easy top 20 album for me.

I also listened to the TI album, and I prefer the Roots and Killer Mike albums so much it's not even a contest.
