Roman Candle remains my least favorite Elliott album. XO remains one of my favorites, but it doesn't touch the self titled in sheer emotional heartwrenchingness.

This Dio era Sabbath is pretty cool. I hadn't heard much aside from a few songs, so thanks again Squirmin'!

I went nuts when I heard Benoit Pioulard was playing until I saw it billed as a "live noise set." Meh. I always like the idea of that kind of stuff better than the reality of standing in a room full of people much cooler than me listening to, well, noise.

"tenor madness" is rather good. only now realized that it's got coltrane on it. i'm not that big on rollins, but coltrane's presence explain why i like that particular album.
mingus is good too. not so much as with individual tracks, the first track is ace however, but that session has got some real cool vibe to it. they're just messing around with a lot of stuff on it and it all sounds pretty cool.

Hatewave, eh? Judging from the fine company it's keepin there in your playlist, sounds like something I need to hear.

Nothing says late 1980s for me like DRI.

Anyway, I'm listening to this for the time being:

This is a stunner.

I'm only a few songs in, but this is one of the more affecting live albums I've heard in awhile. He manages to make U2's "One" sound as fresh as the day it was born and a set opening cover of Radiohead's "Lucky," sound like a standard.

Elco, tweed, norton, etc. -- think you'd enjoy it a whole lot. I'll up it in the next day or two.

Edit: The cover of "I've Got Dreams To Remember" is fucking great. Not to mention his own material is splendid.

But I guess it's better than the (iTunes-issued) Broken Social Scene cover for their 3 Lollapalooza songs.

Yeah, but I'm holding a hard copy of this in my hands. No excuses as an "internet release" or anything.

For some reason I never really listened to this like I did the two that followed. Well good. Some of it sounds like an infinitely prettier Ramones. Or should that be a prettier Donnas...

Slightly un-nerving cover though.

I heard Haynes on the radio a few years ago and was absolutely mesmerized. I bought a cd of his and was underwhelmed. I wanted to hear him solo, with that voice and that guitar. I put this cd in my wish list when I saw it, but never have pulled the trigger. I very much would like to hear this one, ryan. You da man.

Yeah, some of his album work is questionable and the Gov't Mule albums are heavier southern rock.

This though, it's pretty special -- should be exactly what you were looking for.

It was great, the 'live noise' was basically half the album replicated exactly minus vocals. A lot of ambient (noise drone noise drone) played by the Kranky DJ's beforehand. But I'm into that shit lately. I'd never been to Danny's, like the place.
