This is getting a lot more plays than I thought it would initially. But that could be because of all the critical praise it's getting recently...

Yeah, same here. It's grown on me alot more than I expected it would. I feel like such a tool for giving it another chance and liking it more and more pretty much because all of the reviews I've read of it were glowing.

Good picks.

I haven't been to Threshold in ages it feels like, I think largely because I haven't been home in ages (I live practically behind the place). I think next weekend when it's spring break, whoo yeay!!!, and all my friends are gone, I'll be in at Threshold more than I should be, but that's fine.

Devendra Banhart - Cripple Crow

I just grabbed this at the library yesterday. I think I've solved my problem of finding a song I can use to lead into Antony's and the Johnsons' "Hope There's Someone" on my year end mix. Pretty good album overall.

Also picked up:

Death Cab For Cutie - Plans
Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark

... and a few others I can't recall.

I still can't get past Antony's voice. I've only heard a few tracks, but I'm not sold on that one yet.

Interesting, I find Antony's voice to be very similar to Banhart's -- or visa versa.

Here are the other three I got from the library:

Paul Weller: As Is Now (very mediocre)

I guess I can take that off of my list to burn for you then (and I just bought blanks yesterday). I actually really like that record.

Maybe I'll give it another shot. I just kept thinking "If I want to listen to Stephen Stills, I'll go get a Stephen Stills album."

Do you have that Devendra Barnyard album? I think you'd like it a lot. If you don't I'll add it to my list of stuff I owe you.

Honestly, I haven't listened to the Weller record that much, but it sounded really nice when I played it. Didn't notice a Stills connection. Devendra... not sure - Jess sent me about a jillion records on mp3 - is that a 2006 release? For some reason I think I have it, but haven't yet played it... I'll have to take a look at home. so many songs, so little time... with the singles list going on, my hard drive is filling up fast.

You might as well burn the Weller disc and give it a shot later. Have you gotten the Rosanne Cash yet?

I always assumed that Elco wouldn't enjoy Devendra, so I held off on pushing him.

biggrin.gif I'm just happy so many folks are spending so much time considering whether I'll like an album. Maybe ryan and norton should decide, then let me know in advance. If you guys decide I won't like it, then I won't bother listening to it. laugh.gif
