Listening to most of the newer leaks (Campbell/Lanegan, Band of Horses, Mates of State, etc). Nothing is really moving me much, I think Destroyer has spoiled the whole year for me.

Also, I saw a kickass Nike ad last night that really made me want to listen to

Of Montreal - "The Sunlandic Twins"

Yeah, I listened to this two or three times straight the other night while doing assorted homework, laundry and other tasks. I really wish I have heard more of these guys then just this cd. Anyone wanna help out? Perhaps a ysi of "Satanic Panic..." which I hear is pretty awesome.

Not as much for some reason. I mean, it's a really great cd, but I still am a sucker for "Transistor..." alot more. They're both pretty awesome, though I will say.

Also I've been listening to...

I so love this album. It's the first one she's done in nearly a decade that I can listen to from start-to-finish, and even be distracted by the gorgeous vocal harmonies so much that I don't get anything done until the album ends.

The Kinks ~ Kinda Kinks

standout tracks: Nothin' In The World Can Stop Me Worryin' Bout That Girl, Tired of Waiting For You, Something Better Beginning...bonus tracks: Set Me Free, I Need You, See My Friends,
Don't You Fret

IPB Image

The Kinks ~ Face To Face

standout tracks: Dandy, Too Much On My Mind, Rainy Day In June, Fancy, I'll Remember...
bonus tracks: I'm Not Like Everybody Else, This Is Where I Belong (for the moment, my
favorite Kinks song of all time)

IPB Image

The Kinks ~ Something Else

standout tracks: David Watts, Death Of A Clown, Harry Rag, Situation Vacant, Waterloo
Sunset...bonus tracks: Autumn Almanac, Susannah's Still Alive, Wonderboy (love these
three songs...)

i can't wait to pick up the 3-disc set of "Village Green Preservation Society." the Kinks are
rocking my world at the moment. funny, given all i knew about them pre-El Corazon's
awesome box set mix of their music ~ they hardly "rock" at all. i just love all those songs.

Scarlet's Walk made The Beekeeper that much more dissapointing... because i though Tori was back on top of her craft (after the relatively "meh" -ness of Venus, and SLG)

yo mitchell, what's the take on these dudes over there? it's pretty different from most of what i'm hearing in the post-libs nation -- especially these Smiths-ian pop songs like "You've Given Me Something That I Can't Give Back." I do wish the singer had a better voice.

I'm reading "All Day and All of the Night" which is a chronology of the Kinks - and currently it's late '65, so I'm kinda envying you getting to hear all that stuff for the first time (sorta). Anyway, I'm going to send you the boot in my sig when I get a chance. You'll dig it.

side note: "This Is Where I Belong" is also probably my favorite Kinks track ever.
