It's the bonus four song CD that American indie record stores are selling with the new album. It's not available in Canada, so I got it off Oink this afternoon. Check the DBT thread, I posted the key track from the CD.

German cabaret meets female piano singing. It's clever, saucy, and explicit, but never precious...there's a sincerity in the music that Nellie McKay totally lacks.

no, you're not alone. How is this, by the way? It says Grandaddy is on it? I take it that everyone who contributes doesn't just play acoustic solo?

I saw your explanation and link -- thanks man! I'm glad it's nothing more than one unreleased track. Without your informative post, I would have tracked it down, paid too much, and gave it a disappointed head shake on arrival.

there are a few solo guitar tunes on this tribute, but a lot of the artists worked out full band versions of the songs... lots of drums, some piano, and even a little drone here and there. worth the price if you dig fahey.

I practically studied that album for an entire week when the reissue came out last year. I had forgotten what a great album it really was. It helped that I hadn't listened to it in a long time, which allowed me to hear it with a fresh ear.

I'm not all the way through it yet, but I like it more than my tastes would usually indicate I should. I usually don't gravitate to this kinda stuff, but this album is pretty darn fun. Reminds me a bit of the Mekons (at least the little bit of their stuff that I've heard).

EDIT: just heard a bit more at lunch and what strikes me is the real sense of urgency to their music. I haven't spent enough time with it to have a clue what they are singing about, but they make it sound like the most important stuff on the planet. Like if they don't get these songs out right now, the ideas will be lost forever and the future of the planet will be in question.

Ah, the true essense of rock and roll. smile.gif

I implore you guys to listen to the Angels and Airwaves album before spending any money on it. It's not terrible, but it's by no means noteworthy. Tom built it up to be the biggest thing of the year and it's just not... it's the same style of music as the last Blink album (or Box Car Racer), but more rock than punk. Different guitar sound.

I'll take Blink's Dude Ranch over anything else. Or the live album.
