rainer maria's great...there was also this chicago band Nymb that had a similiar format....angelic female vocals..waves of sound...they were awesome...
any other ummm.."emo" bands with chick singers...there have to be more.

No matter how many years have passed, I still hate calling bands like these "emo." I have no problem calling a band like Hawthorne Heights a mall emo band though.
Duff.
The Anniversary trades off male and female vocals, though the dude is the main lineup (for some reason). Don't know if they're still around, though.

They broke up in 2003 or 2004.
Duff.
Didn't like their last record anyway. Shame, though.

Rilo Kiley?

I'd rather just have them do something on Polyvinyl. It's an Illinois-based label, right? "Local?"
Duff.
Ya think Rilo Kiley? Would you call Bright Eyes emo? A lot of people do, but I never really thought so.

And yes, Polyvinyl is based in Illinois. Champaign, I believe. Would make for a cool show.

I'll throw in my two cents: female-fronted five piece with a record out on Fueled By Ramen. Have yet to hear any of their music.

I love this band.

I will be seeing them Friday night at the Metro! Anyone else?

Edit: Ticket no longer needed. Looking forward to the show!

Duff.
She's fucking awesome. Not sure if I'd call her bands emo, but damn are they good.

Rocking Horse Winner bordered on being an emo band. The girl in the band (whose name escapes me) sang backing vocals on the first (I think) Dashboard Confessional album.

Yeah, she (Jolie Lindholm) actually sang on quite a bit of the early Dashboard stuff. I never did get around to checking her band out though.

I really don't think I could shoehorn this band into any kind of "emo" tag, really. I do love 'em though.

And whoever called The Forecast, good one. Their recent one was a pleasant surprise.
