that's fine and well, but it still doesn't explain why this is pinned.
Ben
Yeah, that jesus stuff can go. I went to one of those Metro shows. What an odd experience it was.

I remember having a crush on Paz (like everybody) and Billy hamming it up big time for the 16 year olds up front with his guitar theatrics. I also remember thinking "Lyric" was a pretty good song. I think one other one was okay too.

Hey, remember Djali Zwan?! I think Paz played "Desert Plains" at one of their shows. I remember wanting to hear that. I never did.

ha, I was one of the 16 year olds up front.......didn't mind. I was taking pictures and I've got a few of him looking straight in my camera.
Wolfgang
This is ironic, I just cleaned up my iTunes on Monday and deleted Mary. Like Ben, I still think "Lyric" is a good song but I couldn't see myself listening to anything else on that album ever again.
Seamus
I'll need to dig this one out over the weekend...I seem to recall it's a'ight, with a few utterly cringe-worthy moments, however. "Lyric" rings a bell as being a standout track. For the record, one of my guys (he's been known to lurk in these parts) was an engineer on that record. I always thought those engineers wore suspenders and those big, puffy hats...this guy doesn't. He smokes Camels and takes his pills dry, like a trucker.
Nick
People had high expectations for this band, huh?

I liked this album a lot, especially the first five songs on the disc. The album also has some personal ties for me...after much debate, my fiance and I will be dancing to "Honestly" as our first song at our wedding. The song's lyrics lyrics are a bit cheesey, but in a good way, and the song just fits for us (for many reasons that I won't bore you with).
issachar
I just can't get past the Corgan whine... truly one of the most grating voices in Rock.
Mr. Sinistro
I think I'm going to have to give it a listen this weekend too. I'm a bit nostalgic for actually listening to CD's lately, always have me ipod connected to my surround sound.
ryan
Hey, I was in the "Lyric" video.

I was hungover something awful. Billy and I shook hands. I hugged Paz.

I've never seen the completed video to this day.
The Good Dr Bill
what's with the Zwan discussion going on in this thread?

Sausage, show 'em how it's done.
Undercooked Sausage
yeah wtf is this

i started it, i was relying on you guys to join the fun, oh well, guess the board doesn't get it.

Anyway, why was this pinned briefly.
The Good Dr Bill
I'm pretty sure any thread with the word Zwan in the title gets automatically pinned or something.

Montana
what a terrible band. Real scumbags too from what I have read. The pitcures( minus Corgan and Chamberlin) look like the Manson family photo album.

He sounds a lot like Mick Jagger, imo. And Axl Rose occasionally. I like him better than either of them.

you can hear it a little bit in the drawl.....not too much though. I always thought he was a bit like Sumner of New Order in a way.....though Corgan has more of an edge to his voice than Sumner.

i can hear it, but i'm not quite getting the Sumner comparison.

Regardless, Zwan is far too underrated.
Fathoms
Mary Star of the Sea can be a little fun to spin once in a blue moon but the album is just far too light on substance to hold up on multiple listens. Corgan's reformed attitude and child-like gusto probably made the Zwan-era the creepiest phase he ever went through. The homosexual visual motif of the band didn't help things either.. With that all said though I still think Jesus I has the best CRUNCH ever. That explosive doorsey bassline just kills me.
HandBanana
The only circumstances under which I would have bought this record involve a free face-sitting from that chick in the band.

You'd think William could afford a proper wig, or at the very least a tan.
HewlettsDaughter
i stand by this being the worst lyrical passage in the history of man....

And all I wanted
Was just to hold you close
A little sunshine
Just to butter my toast

wtf is that about toast?

Yeah - it's the new thing where you fuck or get fucked with toast.

Gotta say I was a little nervous about choosing this as "our song," but it ended up kicking ass. In my experiences at weddings...typically the first song is sweet affair, but the sounds of Sinatra, Beatles, Billy Holiday, Etc. have compete with the soft whispers and clanking of salad plates.

But for us, the DJ kicked the volume really high, which had pretty much everyone in attendance standing and cheering (and a few of my buddies throwing up devils horns)...yet for whatever reason none of it was cheesey...and the song was very sweet and sincere. Perfect choice for us.
