Have you guys all seen this? I think it came out in 2007.

True Norwegian Black Metal

There are 5 parts to it.

Kind of cool. I mean, documentaries like these are all over the place now but it kept my interest.

Anyone going to Ozzfest in Tinley? I got lawn seats when they were $10 without fees, so....whatever. I violated my brother's cardinal rule and looked at recent setlists. Looks like stock plus some rarities, surprisingly. The last time I saw the actual Ozzy Osbourne band was on his No More Tours (hah hah) back in 1992 or something. Ozzy commanded everyone to "come on up", so my two brothers and I went right up to the bar in front of front row for most of the show. That was a good day. I'm hoping to catch BLS (never seen), Halford (with Roy Z....I wish Bruce D was playing this thing, but...), and Ozzy. Motley is playing, and I've never seen them, so....check one off the list, but besides Kick Start, I'm not really a fan. I like all the guys in the band, though.

The second stage is actually pretty decent: Skeletonwitch, Saviours, Goatwhore, Exodus, Kataklysm...all great live bands.

You're music player shows that you're listening to a band called Syphlitic Vaginas! Awesome.... Ha ha.

They're not half bad--good songs, thrashy.

So, lot going on in Metal I guess..... Less than a full page of postings in the last month.

This is more metal related than actual metal, but hell.... we need something.

Not sure how I feel about that Man's Gin album. It's not bad, but didn't really grab me at all... Feels a bit tacky in parts.

eddie lives!

"Iron Maiden’s 15th studio album, “The Final Frontier,” shot straight to the top of Billboard magazine’s European album chart when it was released in late August and held that spot for a second week.

The record also made its debut at No. 1 in countries including Saudi Arabia and Japan, giving a lift to EMI Music, which owns the international rights.

In the United States, where it was released by Universal Music Enterprises, “The Final Frontier” had its debut at No. 4.

By the end of last week, more than 800,000 copies of “The Final Frontier” had been shipped to retailers around the world, said Rod Smallwood, Iron Maiden’s longtime manager"

I guess not many around here give 2 shits about them, but this to me, is like if you take the frontman or main songwriter from your favorite band, going back 15 years as a fan (and them being a founding member) and them leaving.

I'm really rather shocked this actually is true. Although 10 years ago or more this would have been a lot worse for me to stomach.

I've been so busy with work the last couple of weeks that I haven't had a chance to hear this, but I'm dying to.

Edit: And new Kylesa? The last one's just starting to really sink in nicely (took awhile to warm up to it, as much as I liked them live last year), but I'll probably have to hear this, too.

Did you see Greg Kot of Sound Opinions fame there?

No. I looked, though.

And Dero must have been out grading papers or something.

Very jealous. I couldn't go.

I've never heard Sleep. They're good? What do they sound like. Give me some RIYLs

RYIL: Black Sabbath and Kyuss, probably. Heavy bluesy stoner rock. All the songs are basically the same but they kick ass!!!

New Intronaut song.

This album is my most anticipated release of 2010 so erm, yeah, I'm pretty excited!!!

Interesting new vocal direction. They sing like Baroness now. Hmm.
velocity
Yeah that sounds great. I don't mind the vox...can't wait to hear the whole album. Wish they'd been playing w/ almost anyone but Cynic when they came around.
James D
yeah cynic are garbage

I logged in after a few weeks to see what the metal thread has been all about. Sask has not been here in almost a month. Has this thread become so terrible that our hero has left us?
Ogawa
The entire board is pretty much dead these days.

Syphilitic Vaginas are a Sweden based, blackened thrash trio that are highly influenced by 80's Japanese hardcore punk. They get their name from the G.I.S.M. song "(Tear Their) Syphilitic Vaginas To Pieces". They sound like early Celtic Frost + Sabbat + Gauze.

Not even really sure what to make of this band, but I figured this would be the place to talk about it. They just put a new song (unmastered) on Myspace and it's kicking my ass. Very unsettling, very groovy basslines. Love the tinny guitar sound. Beyond that I'm not sure how to describe this. Anyone heard a whole album by these guys?
James D
Never heard of this band, but they're ace. This song "Road" is absolutely brilliant!

New Acid Witch song posted on Myspace.

I love Acid Witch. Pretty much exactly what the name sounds like. Psych-Doom with very non-threatening death metal vocals. Ridiculously fun. Guitar work is awesome too.

I'm actually on holiday in England right now...presently enjoying a full English brekky at an inn in Cumbria as I type. But I have been keeping up, though I haven't listened to any music in ten days!

The new Salome is coming out right away, that and Agalloch are the two 2010 biggies I'm still waiting for.

Glad to hear Sask is still with us!

I'm not exactly sure this is metal as its on Thrill Jockey, but check out this new addition to their roster called Barn Owl. Album to be released next month. Pretty epic stuff.

RIYL: Sunn O))), Nadja, Yellow Swans, GYBE. Guys like Ogawa should surely dig this. Play it as LOUD as possible.

I just bought tickets for Katatonia next Thursday. Should be awesome. Swallow the Sun and Orphaned Land are playing as well. Not familiar with the openers, Almost is Nothing and Dusk's Embrace.

Soundscape, is Katatonia playing with Orphaned Land in MN as well? If you're feeling Jewish Metal, check out Jamie Saft/Black Shabbis. He's on Tzadik, so you know it's gotta be weird and awesome.

Just downloaded some Barn Owl, though it took me awhile to find the Doom-ier stuff. It seems their earlier releases are a little more mellow. I'll give it a listen tomorrow when I can crank it without disturbing the sleeping lady behind me.

This is good shit. Like Sunn O))) meets Lustmord or something. I'll never get tired of those crushing Sunn riffs. Love "The Stones Speak Through the Fire" into "The White Mountain Filled With Light." And "Teonanacatl" is awesome. Looking forward to the new release.
