Ok, so I have heard conflicting reports on what to do while I am gone at work. Should I:
Keep the house at about 85 degrees during the day while out, and set the timer to kick in to get it back down to 74-76 by the time I get home from work? The air will probably run consistently for 4 hours or so on a day like this.
Or leave the air setting at 76 all day and just let the air do it's thing while I am out?

you can let the temp get a few degrees warmer while you are at work, but 10 degrees is too much. your electric meter will be spinning so fast, you'll be able to slice lunch meat with that thing
let it go up to maybe 79 while at work. set it to start cooling about an hour or so before you get home

I'd go with that. My central air keeps the place cold just fine, but takes so long to
get the place cold that it's not worth keeping it warmer while I'm at work. Doesn't get cool again until like, bedtime. I'm talking about only super-hot days. 95% of the time it's okay to scale back during the day.
Maybe your system cools the place faster than mine, I dunno.

Hey, we're back to Highs of 75-78°, Lows of 63-68°. The humidity is still over 50% right now, but it'll hopefully drop by the weekend.
[edit]I just checked the weather & we're still showing 80-90% humidity for the weekend. WTF? This's supposed to be a Mediteranean Climate! Dry Summers, Wet Winters!
