"I just wanted to come in and see the fans and give them something really to scream about because I've had my fun here in this Metrodome and they've had theirs, too," Moss said. "That's one thing I really just wanted to come back and just give back to the fans. The organization? To hell with them."
Bleep Blop
So when is he going to freak out on Aaron Brooks for being a terrible QB this year? I say before the first game of the year.

You don't know what Randy will do; he is an extemporaneous fellow:

Randy will make Aaron Brooks good, he makes every QB he works with better.

Very sad news about Chad Greenway last night. I hope gets better. Very encouraging stuff from Tarvaris Jackson though. I'm still not convinced about Brad Johnson.
derry_dukes
Yeah, I like Tavaris' arm; he should be a pretty good option for the Vikings down the road.

Anyways, it is still hard to believe the Vikings updated their uniforms. I miss the old set more than I thought I would.
MattW
I'm sure I'll get used to them. I'm not sure if it had more to do with Wilf's ego and him putting his stamp on the franchise or if the makeover is symbolic of the team washing their hands of the sex-boat, meter-maid days. Either way, I landed a sweet old-design Darren Sharper jersey for $40, so that's something.

This is bad, but it's not like it wasn't bound to happen eventually. Tice had him on a zero tolerance policy. I wonder how Childress is going to respond to this.

Vikings receiver Robinson arrested on suspicion of drunken driving

August 16, 2006

ST. PETER, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Koren Robinson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Tuesday night near the team's training camp.

Robinson was caught speeding on radar at about 10:45 p.m. and refused to stop, Chief Matt Peters said Wednesday. Robinson was arrested by police about 10 miles away in Mankato, where the Vikings hold their training camp.

He was in the Nicollet County jail on Wednesday, with charges possible later in the day. He may face a felony charge of fleeing police along with a possible DWI charge, Peters said.

He was given field tests for drunken driving, police said.

Robinson's agent, Alvin Keels, didn't immediately respond to messages for comment. A Vikings spokesman said the team had no immediate comment.

The 26-year-old Robinson spent 28 days in an alcohol treatment facility last year after being cut by the Seattle Seahawks. Given a second chance with the Vikings, he turned into a solid receiver and made his first trip to the Pro Bowl. The Vikings gave him a new three-year contract in March that included $5.5 million in guaranteed money.

In July, Robinson said in an interview with the AP that he knew he'd always be under scrutiny as a recovering alcoholic. He acknowledged that he was taking some relapse prevention classes in preparation for the NFL season, when he said he would have little time to work on maintaining his recovery.

Seamus
Yeah, I'll be following this Koren Robinson story. Dude talked a good game--about being clean and sober--and now this. Too bad. Sounds like they are going to go after felony charges for fleeing the police...stupid, stupid move. Not quite as stupid as drunkenly crashing your Escalade into a parked car while masturbating to porn [ahem...Eddie Griffin], but this will land Robinson in some trouble indeed.

Hey Matt, I met a dude who lives in the same apartment complex as Lew Ford...runs into him all the time.
MattW
That's pretty cool. Does he play D&D or Halo with Lew online? If not, tell him to challenge to a game. Huge WWJD wearing nerd, that Lew Ford.

Is it true that Lewcifer Ford went out with some of his Cali online gaming buddies to TGI Fridays or Chili's when the Twins were playing the Angels in Anaheim a couple years back?

If so, that's fucking awesome....
MattW
When I saw his name on the list of Vikings on the boat, I figured it was a matter of time. He should have avoided a situation like that altogether. The fact that he didn't take precaution then meant a lapse was bound to happen. It's a shame his got troubles with his addiction. He's got talent on Chad Johnson's level.

I heard that Ford story too. I think Hunter or Cuddyer were busting his balls about it in the press.

NO, I guess they signed Jeff George's right arm so they can attach it to Aaron Brooks...

He probably is. George did a great job of getting him the ball in 1999. Of course he had both Carter and Moss to offset the Moss threat. Randy has never been as dominant without Cris Carter.

Well, that didn't take long. The season was more than 72 hours away from starting when Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss criticized the organization.

Moss hasn't spoken with local media since he conducted a group interview after the Raiders' exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings on Aug. 14. His remarks Friday came in a radio interview with Fox Sports.

``It's crazy around here, man,'' Moss said. ``It's something that we're trying to hold on to, man, and, hopefully, Coach Art (Shell) can move us in the right direction, man. So I'm just trying to stay away from all of that stuff this year, like I did last year and, hopefully, we can win some games.''

Moss didn't get into specifics, so it's unclear as to the basis of his discontent. None of his remarks was critical of Shell or quarterback Aaron Brooks.

Shell said Friday afternoon that he hadn't heard the interview but that he doesn't have a problem with Moss voicing his opinion.

``One thing about this organization, everybody has a chance and opportunity to speak their mind,'' Shell said. ``Every individual, every player. So, what he's talking about? I have no idea.''

Shell said he will address the issue if he thinks it's warranted, though, he added, ``Most things I don't have to address.''

When asked about Brooks, Moss said, ``I'm just not thrilled with the way things are going on around here. I'm thrilled, I'm glad, to have Aaron Brooks as my quarterback. It's fishy around here, man, so, actually, we're walking on eggshells around here, man.''

He did make it clear that he isn't pleased with the team's handling of its receiving corps.

``I'm really kind of disappointed that they let Doug Gabriel go,'' Moss said of a trade last Saturday that sent Gabriel to the New England Patriots.

Gabriel was the projected starter opposite Moss for the opener Monday night against the San Diego Chargers. Instead, journeyman receiver Alvis Whitted got the nod over Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry.

``This is not my team, I'm only playing here,'' Moss said, ``so whoever they put out opposite of me, either I'll play with them or I won't play with them.''

Moss said he isn't privy to the Raiders' motives behind relegating Porter to a backup role, despite Porter's leading the Raiders with 76 receptions last season.

Porter drew the ire of Shell after an off-season meeting ended with Shell's booting Porter from his office. Shell since has said that there isn't an issue between him and Porter.

``There are a lot of people that are unhappy,'' Shell said. ``I can't be concerned with that. I have a whole football team to be concerned about. We're trying to move forward with our team and win football games. I don't think I have to talk to (Porter). About what?''

However, Porter has not practiced or played any exhibition games with the first-team offense, even after he recovered from a calf injury that he sustained the first day of training camp.

We need a "Boof Bonser on a mission" thread here as well. ERA under 3 in his last 3 outings.

I hope Randy goes off this year though. He's more than due. How about the still-shaky Daunte Thursday? Still love the guy, but glad to see him making those passes with a different jersey this year. For the Purple, and I really hope I'm wrong, but it looks like a loooooong stretch of mediocrity has arrived- What's the sentiment up there?

I'm really disappointed that the Metrodome does a "Boooooooooof" chant when he does well. It's too much like Lew Ford's chant. I wish it were more of a barking, Arsenio Hall style "Boof! Boof! Boof! Boof!" chant. I think it would be more intimidating for opposing hitters.

I was a huge Culpepper supporter when he was here, but he broke my heart the way he designed his trade and diminished his trade value. Thursday almost made me want to get a Jerry Porter jersey purchased. I love how he mocked the Daunte Roll.

As for this season, I think we're good for 8-8. But I would be happy if Brad Johnson went down early in the season and Tarvaris Jackson got in there. I think this guy is going to be great. Brad Johnson can't beat good defenses, but he is efficient. If the defense has really improved despite losing Keith Newman, our best linebacker last year, we'll probably be mediocre. Chester Taylor would surprise me if his Y/Carry was over 3.5. He doesn't look very good thus far.

As for the Tampa 2, I think the Bears, Colts, Bucs, and the Vikings are going to have more trouble with it this year because Ben Roethlisberger laid down the blueprint of how to beat it in the playoffs last year. It's a beatable defense and I'd rather have a blitz-happy scheme like Pittsburgh's 3-4 installed in the Vikings system.

I use a group counseling video in my classes in which a 15-year-old kid under the equivalent of DCFS talks about his admiration for Randy Moss because of his overcoming personal obstacles to be successful. I worry a little about Moss's effect on people like that.
The Gooch
I wish I could see a tag team winner-take-all between R. Moss & T. Owens vs. Marvin Harrison & Steve Smith.

Those two old, overpaid, jawflapping losers would get their asses kicked.

By my count there are at least 21 other NFl receivers that I would rather have on my team:

Lee Evans, Chad Johnson, Braylon Edwards, Tony Gonzalez, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Cris Chambers, Lavernius Coles, Marvin Harison, Steve Smith, Hines Ward, Antonio Gates, Santana Moss, Tory Holt, Plaxico Burress, Joe Horn, Marques Colston, Terry Glenn, Roy Williams, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald

And that was without trying very hard.

Since leaving the Vikings, Randy's career has gone south--it's a pretty sad state of affairs. Hopefully, he will be able to resurrect his career in the near future...

Anyways, the NFL needs more skillful white receivers...Mike Furrey is a guy who I think could fill that void...

Roland
Once he gets out of Detroit so he can have a chance at winning before he stops trying..
MattW
I'm expecting the Vikings to at least pursue to get Moss back this offseason. They desperately need a playmaker and drafting a receiver is usually a 2-3 season project to get results. He'd also probably come pretty cheap.

Early prediction from me at least.

I'm thrilled that he'll be the most talented WR Brady's ever thrown to. He's going to draw a ton of attention every time he's on the field, regardless of his willingness to get hit.
