QUOTE
Hey all! Hope all is well on your SuperSunday. I received this
email through my www.pjvault.com site on Jan. 27 but haven't posted
it to the news section as I have been unable to confirm it. It
seems consistent with other rumors out there and thought it was time
to share. Enjoy!

2006 a big year for Jamming
PEARL JAM's eighth studio album will be released internationally
during the week beginning May 1st.
The yet-to-be titled album, their first through new label J Records,
is a heavier effort than their recent albums and is sure to please
fans. In late February they will release the first single "Worldwide
Suicide", a rocker that breaks the mould of previous Pearl Jam
singles, accompanied by a music video and exclusive CD-ROM
components for fanclub members. The band penned 25-30 new songs
over the recording period and finalised 12 album tracks in their new
Seattle studio last week.
A representative for the band has also stated that although no
specific tour dates have been finalized, Pearl Jam will begin their
most comprehensive world tour on the US East Coast in May,
followed by a West Coast/Canada leg. Fans in Europe will also get to
see the band for the first time since 2000 in October and November,
before the band concludes their stretch of shows in Australia and
New Zealand in December.
The long-awaited follow-up to Pearl Jam's 2002 album 'Riot Act' is
soon ready to hit record store shelves via J Records. The aptly
titled upcoming album 'New World' is set for a US/European release
on 9 May.
Songs to appear on the album:
'Worldwide Suicide',
'2x4',
'Crapshoot Rapture',
'Parachute',
'Of The Earth',
'Severed Hand',
'Big Job',
'Fearless'
'Sun Down',
'Cold Concession',
'Gone',
'Unenployable' and
'Marker'.
Pearl Jam will release a first single on March 13th called Worldwide
Suicide with two unreleased b-sides: 'Walkin' Man' and 'Deepest
Thing'.
To coincide with the album launch, Pearl Jam will also announced
live dates for a 39-date US Tour that will see the band play gigs in
different countries. The band is also set to play a major European
tour this late summer/autumn, but dates have not been officially
confirmed yet.

i have no idea what to expect...i have a sinking feeling at least one of these songs will be the "bushleaguer" political complaint song on this album. i'm going with either "Severed Hand" or "Big Job"...but by the titles it could be all of 'em.
Walkin' Man can be added to the live show Man-Medley, fits right in the Nothing, Better & Leather Men.

the other (and more strongly) rumored title of the album is Pangaea (or Pangea, depending how you wanna spell it)
as for the songs, those have all been mentioned in news articles the last year and a half as "potentially" making the record. it's still listed as coming out May 2nd at my local record store

Oh I'm sure they will. They played a Canadian tour last fall and that was the closest show to me.
Though I will note that in the bigger cities it's hard to get REALLY good seats even if you're a member because it goes by seniority (at least it did on the last tour).

the last one for sure (i know Sheck loved it tho, but blah, i only liked maybe half of it, and there was only 2 really GREAT songs for me). had they used some of the songs that didn't make Binaural (Fatal and Sad), that record woulda def been up there w/ their past work.
for me their last great record was def Yield from '98
i'm really hoping for good things w/ this new one. everything seems to point that way, but you never really know. i do like the talk about it being "harder" or being compared to Vs., but i'll believe it when i hear it.

I posted the relevent parts of the HoB show here when it happened, I think it's still on pj.sidewalkcrusaders.com.
The way they've been doing tickets lately, there's less correlation between seniority and seats. I think they've been doing it in blocks (#1-100 in Section A, #101-200 in Section B, etc), but within each block it's just a lottery. So it's possible for Member #1 to get the worst seat in A, with Member #200 right behind them with the best seat in B.
In addition to the Xmas single and tickets, you also get exclusive access to buying stuff like tour posters, which some people are really into. Honestly, a pair of tickets through TM is much more than the $20 it costs to get into the 10 club.

Man. I caught some old live Soundgarden footage recently and really highlighted how fucked Cornell's voice is these days. Which would be alright if he hadn't turned into such a wanker. Someone put a bullet in him - or at least buy him a drink.
re: PJ. Some of those song-titles don't look to promising ('Crapshoot Rapture', ugh). I hope they're not going to try and make an angry political record. They're too old and Vedder's lyrics are too unconvincing to sell it. Why do they think "the fans are sure to like a heavy record"? Since when were PJ fans mindless headbangers? (I realise its the writer not the band talking there).

i agree some of those titles do sound lame, hoping for the best i guess.
Crapshoot is an ok song, they played it live in '04. was kinda hoping it might not make the record tho (still may not, cuz that list is def not confirmed).
some of it will def be fairly political i can already guarantee it. and sadly PJ still have a lot of "mindless headbangers" who show up at their shows holding on to the glory days, but those people rarely buy their newer albums anymore.

Crapshoot Rapture sounds like a really bad metal band name. That's pretty funny.
And I've noticed whenever I read a preview for an album, the disc NEVER sounds anything like they hype it to be. So when this one sounds like the last two discs, don't be too shocked. I sure won't be. But if they were to make a heavier PJ disc, and every track pretty much was some sort of rehashing of "Do the Evolution," I would not complain.

Matt tends to overpower/plow through some of their more intricate songs for me unfortunately. Most of the No Code and Yield stuff he isn't as good as Jack on (not surprising considering Jack wrote those, but still).
looking back, if i could replace Thin Air and maybe Light Years with Fatal and Sad, Binaural would be such a fantastic record.

Yeah, apparently Neil wanted to credit the whole album as Neil Young & Pearl Jam, but Epic objected, and only allowed Ed to sing a little (since he's Pearl Jam's most recognizable member) on the record; and the words "Pearl Jam" couldn't be used in the liner notes, only individual names.
As for that (very short) '95 tour, I caught them at Red Rocks, where they did this great set of acoustic numbers (including, if I recall, "Long Road") while sitting in chairs, before ditching the chairs and rocking out for the rest of the night...

Actually, I will admit to not being a big fan of PJ live, but they have always impressed me when they do their acoustic set at Bridge School. I'm just tired of PJ/Eddie playing the show nearly every single year, and considering that this year, the 20th anniversary, is supposed to be an alumni/reunion show with nothing but artists who have already played Bridge School, I would hate to see PJ taking up a slot on the bill when there are artists out there who haven't played it in over ten years.

Boo to you all for turning away from your "favorite" band, just like changing your favorite sports team makes you a fairweather fan, changing your favorite rock band makes you a fairweather rock fan. There is not one band in this world that has been perfect on every album, with maybe the exception of the Beatles, and the short lived doors and Nirvana, whom didnt have enough time to make a bad record. Some of the greatest rock bands in the world have made some really bad albums, and in my opinion, Pearl Jam's not so good albums are better than many of Pink Floyds latter works, and definatly better than later Metallica or Rolling Stones, and I challege anyone to argue with me on those facts (have you heard st anger?

). Even though I admitt that some of Pearl Jam's last couple albums have not been the best, I still respect them for the works they have completed and the music they have made that have helped me through many trials and tribulations in my 25 years of life, and because of that I not afriad to still call them my favorite band and the most important band in my life. I do also believe they have a couple great albums still in them, but all of you know as well as I do their best album was V.S. even though my two favorite albums are No Code and Vitalogy. I have a feeling their next album is their best since V.S.
