Fair enough. I assumed after I asked, then four people asserted it was eligible, and no one said anything to the contrary, that it must be legit. I'm not going to get all Elco on this one (although to be fair he's dealing with artists that get far less coverage on RYM and other related sites), just wanted my objections noted.

1) Has a video.

2) I asked on Sept. 4th if it was eligible, no answer. After that, Scary voted for it on the 17th and Kilgore voted for it on the 30th, they weren't told it was ineligible and given chances to replace it.

3) Mitchell said on Sept. 6th "everyone knows it's eligible" (even though he went on to say no one should vote for it).

4) Man is Matter posted this on Sept 5th, and no one replied :

Also, in case anyone is to believe that "Idioteque" (my to-be number one single from this era) is not eligible for this list, please observe: http://eil.com/shop/extsearch.asp?DiscTitle=idiot

Also, it has an officially commissioned video, if a pretty shoddy performance one.

You can buy it, you can watch it, and they performed it on SNL. Sounds legit to me.

Video's for a different version of the song, might even have been live, dunno. Anyway all the Kid A songs had "videos" to some extent.

My bad if I missed your question, but I've long stopped correcting people on ineligible singles/albums they put on their list, that's their own bad.

Didn't Mitch also say that each of the Kid A tracks had a promo released for it?
Hero
I'll make the argument that all the singles from the Bends & Ok Computer should be higher than Idiotechque anyways

i forgot to vote "No Surprises" crap
Mitchell
The Kid A songs had 30 second i-blips which were trailed on TV, "Idioteque", "National Anthem", "Optimistic" all had promos which you could have bought at the time for $35 or so or more like $350 now (thanks I have one).

"Idioteque" has a video of in stuido performance and obv SNL. I only said 'of course it's eligible' as I thought it was considered eligible by it's promo status, my complaint was why vote for a Radiohead promo when their de facto singles have worthy, and in many cases better, b-sides.

awesome. i'm very anxious to see how this goes. i didn't really look at a lot of other lists, so i hope to see a handful of surprises (and a lot of "oh shit, why didn't i think of that?!" songs).

hey, looking through the lists now I noticed that I don't think I counted this one--possibly because it was unofficial at first and officialized without my knowledge? In any event, my sincere apologies to the listmaker, especially since it seems like a pretty awesome list.

QUOTE(b*derty @ Sep 29 2006, 04:57 PM)

only had time for a top ten:

1) Tom Waits- Hold On
2) Matthew Ryan- Guilty
3) Tripping Daisy- Sonic Bloom
4) Weezer- El Scorcho
5) Yeah Yeah Yeah- Maps
6) Belle & Sebastian- I’m Waking Up to Us

9) Better Than Ezra- Desperately Wanting
10) Damien Rice- Cannon Ball

EDIT: OFFICAL

this one too. I thought I made this clear guys--you can't just edit your list and say "official," you have to let me know that your list has been officialized.

Seems easy to just copy and paste into a new reply.

Yeah, that "Idioteque" thing is major bullshit, seeing as no indication was made by Bill to the contrary and lots of evidence pointed towards yes. Your "My bad if I missed your question, but I've long stopped correcting people on ineligible singles/albums they put on their list, that's their own bad," is pretty ridiculous. There was an awful lot of conversation about it for there to be no response and yet have us assume it is ineligible.
The Good Dr Bill
well, now, to be fair, I did say this:

QUOTE(The Good Dr Bill @ Sep 2 2006, 01:08 PM)

QUOTE(MitchellStirling @ Sep 2 2006, 06:10 AM)

"Optimistic", "I Might Be Wrong"

I'm with Morgan, these two were semi-hits in the States (the latter even had a video), so they count. The rest of your list [of Radiohead maybe-singles from the Kid A era] is out though, yeah.

which definitely implies that "Idiotheque" is not eligible for the poll
Mitchell
let me hear both sides.

i never saw anything saying that i couldnt just put offical in didnt know i had to repost. i assumed you were just going to go through the thread and pull the lists off after the dead line, my edit of "offical" came within the day of my original post. just stating my side.

so does this mean my album list doesnt count?
The Good Dr Bill
your album list counted, yeah.

1 Pulp - Common People

this will be #1 on our singles list without a doubt.

it's a song pretty much everyone can agree on...

Pulp are who we thought they were! And that's why we did the damn poll! Now if you want to crown them, then crown their ass! But they are who we thought they were! mad.gif

Well, damn. No problem Bill I just didn't know that editing wasn't gonna cut it. Thanks for the kudos on the list. I'll know better if I do another poll.
