walleye for me please. fun to catch and tasty as hell.
Hey, that's a nice walleye, skinny---even considering the 'ol "Hold it closer to the camera so it looks larger" perspective. You catch that? Where? I've got one like that hanging on the wall in the sun room, but it was caught by my late father in law, not me. A fish on the wall is a timeless decoration, in my opinion; I feel fortunate to have it, cuz they are goddam expensive these days. Still waiting to catch a fish worthy of putting on the wall of my imaginary, cheesily-paneled "contractor wet bar".
A good fish, like a good woman, needs to be stuffed and mounted, though not necessarily in the same order.
Lately I have been gravitating toward the smallmouth bass (as sportfish, not as dinner,
eeewww). Pound for pound, I think these summabitches have the feistiest fight, and even the small ones are thrilling. I also been moving away from largemouth bass; they are great fish to catch, but there is something so inherently NASCAR/hillbilly about that species; I dunno, and then, I'd like to try fly-fishing, but that has become such a pretentious, Cigarly-Davidson -chic branch of the angling world that it is putting me off in an opposite way. I guess a real fisherman doesn't worry about the social ramifications and/or levels of measurable coolness, but , ya know, eventually you are gonna have to talk to these people.
Unfortunately, I think you have to drive at least two or three hours to get to fishing that is worth a rat's ass; I feel that Illinois has some really shitty fishing, although it does show signs of improvement, and catch and release seems to be gaining popularity. Anybody who knows a good local spot, I'd love to hear about it---I'll throw out the Kankakee River, near the state park, which can be quite good sometimes, although I've been skunked there more times than several.
I'm working for scale.
