So far the top 100 is 2 for 2

DP has had four dance chart-toppers over here (including non-single "Face to Face," oddly enough)

This topic is so depressing for me. I own/recognize only about 15 of the first 152 songs, and I don't really love more than 2 or 3 of them. I really should pay more attention to the radio or something, because I'm way too clueless about all these singles. Hopefully the top 98 is a bit more entertaining to watch.

Great job with the lists though, you're extremely thorough posts are quite educating Dr. Bill.

I can't wait to see how "Digital Love" places.

Just a few quick observations:

1)
IPB Image
It seems that he may have blown his wad, as all of his huge hits, save "Where It's At?" have placed. Unless something from Midnite Vulture sneaks in, the top 100 will be very Beck-lite.

2)
IPB Image
Prepare for an onslaught of Missy, who had no songs in the bottom 150.

Just a few quick guesses.

Also, out of all of these songs, there was only 1 I really disliked (no idea how "Hey Ma" got on there).
Hero
with that definition, Len definitely is a novelty song!

apparently a #1 on the dance chart is not much of an accomplishment: erasure, the eurhythmics, kelly osbourne, seal, and jamiroquai all managed it last year.

It's not about luck. This is an election year, my friends. SOMB polls are all about GOTV. We still must find a way to overcome the Weezer bloc. They've formed a nefarious coalition with the indie contingent and, using a nostalgia fueled populist campaign strategy, seem to have designs on securing a permanent majority. Perhaps I should abandon the politics of division and seek to find common ground with throughsilver. We have more in common then we have not.

Jeff Buckley - "Last Goodbye"

Year
: 1995

US Chart Position: #19 Modern Rock

UK Chart Position: #54

Acclaimed Music Ranking: #21 (year), #174 (decade), #1230 (all-time)

Rank on Our All-Time Singles List: #178

AMG Says: "With its conversational verse and nearly orgasmic chorus, the lush, regretful "Last Goodbye" can arguably be thought of as Jeff Buckley's only real "hit." His sensitive rocker looks played pretty well on MTV in 1995, and the song got some moderate airplay. But it was the song's timelessness and subtleties that captured what became a devoted (to say the least) fan base that would retain its fervor even with Buckley's death in 1997. "Last Goodbye" is easily the best and most accessible tune from his full-length debut, Grace, and its emotional qualities have made it a standout track that still gets play on any jukebox lucky enough to have it. Buckley didn't pull any punches with this song, letting his emotions guide his voice and guitar, achieving an honesty not readily found in the post-grunge world of 1995. That isn't to say this song isn't a bit over the top emotionally -- it is, but he manages to maintain sincerity in the emotion, and it never gets sappy. Nor does his desire to revisit the passion and the purity of a lost relationship ever seem artificial. One listen to that voice hit those high notes on the lyric "Kiss me, please kiss me...kiss me out of desire," and you know he means it."

Most egregious oversight of my voting--had this at #11 the last time I put together an all-time list, and somehow forgot it here.
The Good Dr Bill
definitely a single that suffered from being released in a different decade as its accompanying album

can't say I'm too broken up about it though

Man, I've been hooked on that Johnny Boy song this week. I should have voted for it. My new headphones are making the difference. I think it could be a little better if the "yeah yeah's" and "oh baby, aw baby's" were a little more effective, but the main female vocal, "this frequency is my universe" part and the general rush is pretty darn nice.

Yeah, I think if we re-voted today (god forbid) this would vault up at least 100 spots from folks who've only heard it through its appearance here. Stellar track.

Thing is that I'd heard it the first time around but it never registered the same way. All glory be to Grado.

sorry guys, won't be updates today until late tonight, if at all. Tuesday is my busy day.

In the meantime, those of you who haven't heard "Dust Me Selecta" should be d/ling and coming back and raving about how wonderful it is.

Went to go d/l it now and opened my "'94-'04 Singles" folder (which I don't dump into iTunes 'till the list is complete) and to my surprise I had this one d/l'ed already (along with Hum's "Stars"). I haven't even listened to it yet though. Point is, there must have been a push in the suggestions thread for me to have trused anyone enough and d/l this.

But since I didn't even vote this news is rendered inconsequential in my life.

that ain't "dust me selecta". or, if it is, it's a totally different mix than the ones I've heard. Hell, it doesn't even sound like Gerling!

uhh...it certainly sounds like "Dust Me Selecta" to me--including the version you put on a mix for me three years ago, which is a minute shorter, but still clearly the same song.
