I spent 25 winters in Chicago and love the cold and snow, but I chose not to return after I finished school because I hate the summers back there. I can't deal with heat, humidity, and air conditioning.

This is where California comes in. Mud slides, brush fires, coastal erosion, earthquakes, mass killings, et cetera. We can relax and enjoy these disasters because in our hearts we feel that California deserves whatever it gets. Californians invented the concept of lifestyle. This alone warrants their doom.

...oh yeah...

Earthquakes don't scare me...I live only 200 feet from what is considered to be the most dangerous fault line in the country, if not the world, and my house has been retrofitted.

Gas is only $2.50/gal right now and was $2.09/gal only three or four weeks ago, but then I don't care what gas costs (actually, I do...I think it should be priced much, much higher), because I only drive about 500 miles a year.

I don't feel for the owners of these homes in the least bit. Those homes should never have been built in a slide zone. Good riddance.

That looks like an excellent bouldering opportunity once the rain stops. There are three boulders even larger than that located close by my house that I go climbing on all the time.

Probably in the archives on the old board (which no one other than myself seems concerned with trying to save before it's too late).
Or was that a list about how summer is overrated? Can't remember.

A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS
AFTERNOON.
THE INITIAL BATCH OF SNOW IS OCCURRING OVER NORTHERN ILLINOIS.
SOME RAIN IS STILL MIXING IN WITH THE SNOW OVER THE CHICAGO METRO
AREA AND THE SOUTH SUBURBS...BUT THE ROCKFORD AREA IS EXPERIENCING
ALL SNOW.
BY LATE MORNING...ANY RESIDUAL MIXED PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE
OVER TO ALL SNOW...WITH SNOW BECOMING HEAVY AT TIMES BY MID
MORNING OVER NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND LATE MORNING OVER
NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWESTERN INDIANA. SNOW IS THEN
EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE DAY...DIMINISHING TO
FLURRIES IN THE EVENING.
THE MAIN FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH THE STORM SYSTEM IS SHAPING UP
TO BE A LITTLE STRONGER THAN PREVIOUSLY ANTICIPATED. THEREFORE...
THE TOTAL SNOWFALL FORECAST HAS BEEN INCREASED TO 12 TO 14 INCHES
FROM THE ROCKFORD AREA EASTWARD ALONG THE WISCONSIN LINE. THE
NORTHERN AND NORTHWESTERN CHICAGO SUBURBS AND LOCATIONS WEST TO
NEAR DEKALB SHOULD SEE AROUND A FOOT AND THE SOUTH SUBURBS THROUGH
THE INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR SHOULD SEE UPWARDS TO 8 TO 10 INCHES.
IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY SNOW...NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE ON
WEDNESDAY...GUSTING TO 30 MPH AT TIMES...CAUSING PERIODS OF BLOWING
AND DRIFTING SNOW.
SINCE TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN AT OR JUST BELOW THE FREEZING MARK
FOR THE DURATION OF THE SNOWFALL...THE SNOW WILL LIKELY BE WET AND
HEAVY...REQUIRING EXTRA EXERTION WHEN SHOVELING.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

dunno, my gf's neighbors saw them out in their yard and took some pics. word was going around that some rich guy who lives in the area (and who's name alludes me at the moment) may have bought them and brought them into the area. means bad news for my gf's parents as they have wah-wahs and irish setters and we're worried they might get attacked.
