four episodes all ran together. Shit. Hope it gets picked up elsewhere.
HewlettsDaughter
i was about to post this, actually. entertainment weekly gave the first three of these episodes an A+. they hadn't seen the fourth. here's hoping the last episode they give a big shocking ending and a hint as to where the show will end up.

dude ill be in milwaukee watching these tommorrow night.
HewlettsDaughter
Bumping this because, well, more people need to be aware of this and watch it, suckah!
Undercooked Sausage
Thanks, derek, for being the only person who supports this thread.
velocity
Thanks guys. I'm going to see if there's any room left on my dvr to record these.
el douche
fuck! I thought it was already over. well, good thing I get Showtime...
KENAN THOMPSON

Fuck You for even considering this a conflict
musicgurl
I heard somewhere that the show is in limbo right now because Fox hasn't "officially" cancelled it but they aren'r renewing therefore another network can't pick it up. If that's the case then that is just fucked up. dry.gif

I wish I had remembered this was on then I would have set the VCR.

Drew darling, you know me better than that. The "fuck you" towards Fox was for letting this show's last few episodes out to the wolves to get clobbered in the ratings. It shows how far their confidence in the show has dropped.

What conflict? In this house, AD can wait until the dvd comes out. Otherwise, it's all about the Winter Olympics (except for the Dick Button/Scott Hamilton telethon).

I am conflicted for sure. I'm actually interested in watching the Olympics for once. The promos are way cool. Besides, even though I hate winter, I love winter type sports.

But tonight's pretty much just a parade.

Or the equivalent of the Superbowl half-time show.

No, it's much more bearable.

Very festive ceremonies, actually, from what I saw. They had the 70s disco going non-stop during the parade of nations. Canada looked pretty cool with their goofy floppy trapper hats.

I just started watching this show a few months ago. Downloaded seasons one and two and I just couldn't believe how great it was.
BTW, whatever happened to Anyong?
mouthbreather
The DVD set for Season 3 should be out soon. I'm sure they won't wait long after the final shows are broadcast.

Easily the best comedy on TV in years.
scarymuppet
Well, that's that. Pretty good ending. Reviving the series seems difficult at this point without some major leaps in plot.
Saskadelphia
That was the fastest two hours ever. I'm going to miss this show.

The Justine Bateman bit was hilarious.
britkid
that was a pretty great ending. i turned to my roommate and told her i almost wish it were completely over after the last episode ended, which is in itself somewhat remarkable considering how everyone i know knows how obsessed i am with this show.
KaBoom21
Wow, tonight was my first time tuning in. Holy shit, did I ever enjoy that. Filled my Larry Sanders Show jones from way back.

I guess we know now! Interesting plot twist, wish they didn't have to tie up all the loose ends so quickly, I think the circumstances made me not enjoy this as much as I wanted to.

Ever see Will Arnett on Conan? One time, after the first season was over, he kept joking that Jason Bateman was trying to get her sister on the show, and he kept asking, "Can I do I love scene with her?" etc., all these incest jokes that did more to gross out the crowd than make them laugh.

But yeah, it was great how they used her. Man, they have to save this show, it's a haven for second-string has-beens.
Andyroo
I DVR'd them... definitely worth watching? I've seen the first two seasons in full but only a couple episodes from this season.

"You forgot to say away" has to be my favourite line from all four final episodes.

Fantastic episodes! Very happy that they killed it on their own and that it would appear it will not return. It will now live in infamy insteady of ever sucking.

Justine Bateman looked hot. The shows were outstanding, outrageous and hilarious.

I think Showtime has passed on it... show's dead...
beansimpson
If your going to go, this was a way to do it. I actually agree with what's been said here, I hope the show does not come back after this ending. Its too much of a high note.

I wouldn't mind seeing this cast however in a different show with different characters.
The Good Dr Bill
was anyone else left kinda cold by these last episodes? I think this season's been kinda on-and-off in the first place (though usually more on) but these episodes sorta showed the worst--the endlessly recycled "should I betray my family or keep us together?" dilemmas Michael goes through, the one-note LOL GAY character Tobias has been reduced to, and worst of all, the utter lack of caring anyone in the family still seems to feel for each other--in the first couple seasons, the family could be almost unfathomably callous but they still seemed to care for each other in some way, but between Lucille's mechanics, GOB's stealing George Michael's girlfriend (and GM's response to it) and Lindsay's petitioning to have her brother killed, the show kinda lost its heart in these two hours. What's more, the episodes weren't that funny--I laughed maybe a half-dozen times throughout all four episodes, which would normaly be my laugh count for even one of the lesser episodes of the first two seasons. I'm disappointed, but at the very least it'll make the show a lot easier to part with. I certainly hope no one picks it up at this point, anyway.
no magnets
i also thought the final episodes were disappointing. the whole season's been in disarray, but i thought there were still some strong episodes. the last four, though, didn't seem to come off very well.
Uncle Remus
I wouldn't agree with those assesments at all. I laughed heartily at each of the first three episodes. The final one wrapped things up a little too hastily and just felt rushed.

Well, that's because it was. The season was supposed to have 22 episodes, and was cut down to 13, hence the cramming at the end.
Uncle Remus
well, if you look at those other three episodes that night, it would seem they were probably made around the same time, written and shot, I mean.

What I'm trying to say is that I believe they had those final four mapped out and just let the air out on the final one. It goes with my theory that they decided to kill any chance the show had of being picked up. Which, imo, is the smartest thing they could have done. Had they continued elsewhere, they would have run the show into the ground and it wouldn't have the lasting impression it now leaves.

I could very well be wrong and the last episode could have been completely separate from the others.
HewlettsDaughter
just watched the last four episodes. very very good stuff. they tied up pretty much every loose end i hoped could be tied up.
As for the very very ending, it was good and left some hope in my eyes for the show to end up somewhere in some other format.
And I must say the Ron Howard spots throughout the episodes were pretty awesome.

Arrested Development. Providing the only legitimate context in which to use "Ron Howard" and "awesome" in the same sentence.

SHOWTIME FOR THE BLUTHS?: Hmm, maybe the fat lady should shut her mouth and take a seat. The New York Post hears brand-new buzz that Showtime has not only picked up Fox's canceled Arrested Development but has ordered a full 26 episodes.

yeah, I really can't see anywhere for it to go from here. More Tobias = Gay jokes? More of Michael conflicted between his own security and his loyalty his family? More of George Sr. and Oscar getting mixed up, with hilarious consequences? More Lindsay trying to seduce random dudes and failing miserably?

It had a great run. The final episode wasn't fantastic, but it works as long as it is in fact the final episode. Time to go.

R.I.P., 'Arrested Development' -- critics' fave not given room to grow

Tim Goodman

Tuesday, March 28, 2006

The Bluths are out of business.

"Arrested Development," the critically praised but low-rated Fox show that won an Emmy for outstanding comedy series, as well as Emmys for writing, will not be resurrected on Showtime as rumors circulating for months have suggested.

A source close to the negotiations said that creator Mitch Hurwitz had decided after a lengthy period of debating an offer from Showtime that "Arrested Development reached its end, creatively, as a series."

I knew they were too smart for this. Good man, Hurwitz.

definitely the best choice for the show.
