Who: El Corazon
When: 2003? 2004?
Probably early 2003, I'm guessing; could be wrong thoughTitle: "Kinks Mix"
Tracklisting:Lost? Not included?
you obviously got a bootleg copy of the Kinks mix. Here are the (limited, but still worthwhile) liner notes:
The Kinks' Unofficial Box Set
Unfortunately, due to some gaps in my Kinks CD collection, there are a
few omissions of some of my favorite Kinks' tracks (especially from the
underrated "State of Confusion" and "Word of Mouth" records), but I hope
this set represents the vast majority of the greatness of the Kinks.
The CD's are organized generally in chronological order, the first disc
being a bit more artistically put together than the others. Disc one
takes you from the beginnings (around 1964) up to around 1968. It is
highlighted by their early heavy rock singles like "You Really Got Me"
and "I Need You"; but it also includes many of their sarcastic tunes
like "A Well Respected Man" and "David Watts", as well as their
masterpiece, "Waterloo Sunset". The quantity of terrific early rockers
and pop gems is astounding.
Disc two contains tracks from as early as 1967 and continues up to
1970. There are still quite a few basic rockers ("Till the End of the
Day", "She's Got Everything") but the emphasis is changing as the Kinks
begin to include more and more detailed stories in their songs. Much of
the music is more acoustic, although it continues to be unique and
always entertaining.
Disc three takes you from 1970 up to 1975 or so. It begins at the
latter part of their peak period, including possibly their most famous
song, "Lola", as well as quite a few classics from this period. Songs
like "Top of the Pops" and "Moneygoround" demonstrate the more
theatrical direction of Davies' songwriting, which is more fully
revealed in the mid-70's records like "Preservation Acts I & II" and "A
Soap Opera", which are represented in the last third of Disc Three.
Disc four consists of material recorded from 1976-1980,
including several live tracks from "One For the Road". Emerging from
their "concept album phase" with more conventional records in the late
70's, this disc represents a commercial renaissance for the Kinks.
Although the charm of the late 60's records is disappearing, each of the
records released during this period contained several gems, which
allowed the Kinks to become "arena-rockers" really for the first time in
their career.
Disc five begins around 1981 and includes as much as possible through
their sporadic output in the 1990's including the mostly live recording
"To the Bone". This is a continuation of their arena-rock days of the
early 80's, and takes them into the late 80's and 90's where poor
production sometimes obscured some still entertaining well-written
songs.
The Kinks will never be consider great "musicians", although Dave Davies
is sometimes underrated as a guitarist, but they will always be a great
band. Ray Davies is obviously the main force driving this band, but the
contributions from brother Dave (including quite a few great songs, as
well as some amazing backing vocals), hopefully reveal themselves in
these grooves. I hope this set is not too sprawling, but for me, five
discs are not enough. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I
enjoyed making it.

My handwriting sucks. I work hard for mixes I send to hippy hippy as he seems a tad into presentation, so I dont' want him disappointed. For norton, I just scribble something on the disc.
