caught them at the roseland in nyc (with glassjaw) in 2000.
killer show..great energy.

Interesting pairing. In listening to SNW today, I kept thinking about Glassjaw (who I haven't spun in probably six months or so). I'm sure GJ was inspired by the Deftones, but I wonder if the opposite is true?

Palumbo's vocal has often been compared to chino's. i imagine he would cite them as an influence...
velocity
Hell yes, the new song is perfect. Pissed that they played somewhere around here recently and I didn't even hear about it until afterward.
swede
just dug out my "limited edition" solid black jewel case copy of white pony.
really classy packaging!

were these really limited edition?
i know there was a red version too..
tutpsu
Ugh, I had the red version but I left it in a compartment in someone's car and they sold the car. Gone just like that.

i have the red version. i think there were limited to 10,000 per colour worldwide.
سلام عليكم و رحمة الله و ب
this song is kind of phoning it in but i like it

and SNW is their best album by a pretty good margin
Dread
The new song isn't really phoning it in to me, but it's definitely a strange pick for a first single... unless it's not actually the first single? Pretty Around the Fur-ish though, which I won't complain about even though that means it sounds like a song that should be 13 years old.
spiritofeden
so i went back to s/t and SNW today.
shame on me for over looking these when they came out. there is some really amazing shit on both disc's

Yeah, I think I am falling in love with SNW. I've been focusing my attention on that, but I am anxious to get to the self-titled release to.
wh1tep0ny
White Pony is my favorite album so anything they would of released next would of been hard to embrace the same way. So it took me awhile to get into the S/T record but once I did wow

Bloody Cape is just perfect, and overall extremely solid metal record

I love that they are somewhat unpredictable and will always buy their albums and have learned my lesson that I will have to give each release time to sink in and that's not a bad thing
tutpsu
Diamond Eyes here

Nice riffage at the end.
powernotgreed
i just want to hear this whole album already.
wh1tep0ny
2 for 2 on this new album- this album is going to be amazing.

Agreed, I'm holding out until then.

White Pony > Greatest Hits

"Elite" is amazing.
spiritofeden
the dude

looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Been listening to loads of Deftones recently so this has come along at the perfect time. First three songs have been pretty cool.

Love this band.

deftones were the first band i really got into when i was growing up. seems like they're back on track after snw. especially chino. his contribution seemed really uninspired on the last album. he's back with a bang here though, sending shivers down my spine. love the breakdown in prince.
tutpsu
Man, I really need to hear You've Seen the Butcher live.
powernotgreed
I can not wait to get home and listen to this. Good quality leak?
Backwards Art

Loving this so far.
spiritofeden
this is pretty excellent.
the dude
yep, really, really impressed with this.

that "butcher" song is tres rad.
James D
One full listen so far.

Love the third track and the previously leaked songs. The rest so far is a bit of a blur/bore. We'll see how this plays out over time.
wh1tep0ny
Loving it, I love everything they do (minus Pink Cellphone wtf) sometimes tracks take more to absorb but I always find something I like.

Beauty School fucking dope

at what point do I start the Diamond Eyes thread...
Pygmy
Thank God for these guys. Finally an album I can sink my teeth into. I swear I was 2 more She and Him Volumes away from tucking my penis and living the rest of my life as a spineless, sexless unick. Nothing but a Glam Rock revolution would have saved me from 6 more months of uninterrupted souless indie/chillwave.

Deftones came just in time. Thanks for saving my testicles.
Vivian Darkbloom
So yeah, it's another solid Deftones release, and like all of their records, it will take some time to sink in and process. Right out the gate, "Rocket Skates," "CMND-CNTRL" and "You've Seen the Butcher" are the obvious faves. And with "Sextape," they've successfully pulled off the first Deftones radio-friendly buttrock ballad.

I really like the sound of this record, the guitar tones and the textures, and Chino's vocals sound better than ever.

The songs, though, sound a little bit one-note to me. That's only after a couple listens, so we'll see. But SNW seemed to carry a lot more moods and textures across the album as a piece. Also, while I love the vocals, I must say that Chino kind of rehearses the same old melodic ideas over and over again. It's like, when you hear one of those big guitar washes, you can always predict just what kind of hushed, chromatic interval he's gonna lay down to start, and then open up into a screeching wall on the chorus. I mean, I like it, but he's a bit of a one-trick pony/ self-cariacature at this point.
James D
Yeah I don;'t really ask for a Deftones album full of 9's and 10's anymore. It just isn't going to happen. All I want is a few great songs to tide me over, and that's what they've done again. CMND-CNTRL is awesome.
Vivian Darkbloom
I never would have expected coming to this conclusion the first time I heard the record, but I think that "Sextape" may be my favorite song on the album. I've always thought they owe a serious debt to Siamese Dream-era Smashing Pumpkins (if you doubt it, listen to "Kimdracula" from their last record) and "Sextape" has that same elegiac, heavy-with-the-light quality that all of the best songs on the last half of SD share (like "Mayonnaise"). It's really a very good song. If it had a more memorable chorus than "to-niiiight," I could see it becoming a pretty major modern rock radio hit.
Vivian Darkbloom

Fucking LOVE the "Beauty School" outro....
Saskadelphia
This album is terrific. Not much has changed except the mood...the upbeat tone of the entire record really makes it stand out. "Beauty School" is my fave so far.
Saskadelphia
Ugh, not a fan of the cover:

I was hoping for something along the lines of SNW again.
spiritofeden
weird, the album cover i saw was a city scape.

tutpsu
That's the single cover. And the real cover is a stock photo. http://www.glowimages.com/index.cfm?/image...mp;extIntCode=0

Lame.
Stop Breathin'
I'm kinda back and forth on this so far.
spiritofeden
i've been diggin this alot so far.
velocity
It gets better on repeat listening. Wish they were all in the mode of "Rocket Skates" and "CMD/CTRL."

these guys have been my favorite since the shitty club days but for some reason their artistic ability and sense begins and ends with music.

Their first albums is full of tacky photos and a crappy cover cuz they waited to the last day to turn stuff in and Chino ran around with a disposable camera. A freakin' abandoned school bus? looked so 7th grade.

Around the Fur- a funny looking girl in a out of focus view- Sat Night Wrist - slightly better

Their EPK's are always cool esp for White Pony and with all the cool images they pick a clip art outline of a horse

ugh they piss me off

haven't even had a decent concert shirt since bck in the Dickies logo days
Dread
I actually have quite a nostalgic fondness for the cover for their self-titled album. I even have it on a t-shirt. It's kind of a silly photoshop deal, but I like it... probably even more than the actual music inside.

I'm only on my second time listening to this album, but I think I'm really going to like this one quite a bit. I'm really thankful for that. There are but a handful of acts that can still hold my attention after listening to them for a decade or more (when I was a teenager), and I'm glad Deftones are still there. I'm really contemplating on finally seeing them live, but I've always heard mixed things about them so I'm a bit wary.

true the Adrenaline cover isn't bad but the inside photos looks like a high school demo

live they're either the best band or the worst- like Nirvana no in between

my philosophy is to see them any time possible and I am currently in the 50 show range dating back to the Cattle Club and Guild Theater days in Sacramento
alphawaves
Really loving this album. 976-EVIL, Beauty School, are Risk are currently highlights for me.
